at a school board meeting, every speaker before her was masked. Most appeared to approve of the mask-mandate as creating a safer environment for their kids. Then it was her turn.

After spending 2 of the allotted 3 minutes per speaker complaining about her time being restricted (whinge whinge whinge), the ignorant woman went on to show she didn't fully understand how masks work and then threatened to bring her guns to school monday:

There’s a lot of science. There’s a lot of good science. You know, the mask protects the person that’s wearing it.”

Unfortunately, King did not appear to grasp that science correctly. John Hopkins University states that, while masks protect the wearer, they more importantly protect the people around the wearer. The mask is used to keep respiratory droplets from spreading.

“All right. No mask mandates,” King continued. “My children will not come to school Monday with a mask on. All right. That’s not happening.”

“And I will bring every single gun loaded and ready,” she threatened before being interrupted again by a board member.

“I’ll see y’all on Monday,” King said before leaving the podium.

who said anything about cloth masks? you do know, for all variants so far, the 3-layer surgical blue types and the N95+s are better anyway? For those omicron-ravaged states, the cloth masks aren't enough... the kids need the others. The extreme transmissibility of omicron makes it more able to infect and cloth and surgical masks can sometimes gap around the cheeks... with the less transmissible prior variants, that mattered less. You can wear a cloth mask over a surgical mask for additional protection for others since it reduces that gapping.

get the kids vaccinated, those than can be, mask up and keep on with the sanitising. it's called normal public healthcare in a pandemic.

it honestly hurts my head reading them, one of the reasons i normally don't.

how many times has it been explained to them that the masks are PRIMARILY there to prevent the virus from being passed on by the WEARER of the mask but still offer some protection FOR the wearer. How much depends entirely on how well the masks are worn, how fit for purpose their material construct, and the amount of viral load being exhaled/sneezed/coughed by the mask-wearer.

The deplorables never see BEYOND the 'protecting ME' thing, in some kind of selfishness-induced blindness. As for buddly, he doesn't seem to understand the aerosolized droplets leave the body in droplets of fluid... hence the blue, liquid-stopping outer cover of the surgical masks. i really can't read or answer any more from the today; i'd need to take headache tablets.
