So, it seems that what I thought was a universal compliment to french fries is not as universal as I thought. Do only Canadians and Brits puts vinegar on their fries? Do only Canadians from southern Ontario do it? Do you? How could I have lived this long and not realized that I was a freak with a vinegar fetish?

As an American who loves visiting Canada (I once seriously considered emigrating)...I love the taste of vinegar on fries. Obviously, I don't do it often down here b/c McDonald's doesn't offer vinegar as a side to their fries.

I tried it on a trip to Canada and was surprised it was good. Of course it's pretty hard to find places that have it here.

Red Lobster and Long John Silvers both serve fries with inigar as a side
I LOVE IT
nummy.

I use vinigar for a lot of things including cleaning.

I suspect I will be visiting those restaurants more now.

I was married to a Canadian and I loved that from the start. I prefer the red wine vinegar the best, but others are good.

The Portuguese put vinegar on their mashed and boiled potatoes! I like that better than gravy now!

and, btw, Canadians also put gravy on their fried - I'm not too keen on that one!

Yummers - vinegar and spuds!

I grew up on the Canadian border, so of course I love Vinegar on French Fries ... and McDonald's Pizza and Swiss Chalet Rotisserie Chicken with extra chalet sauce!

That's disgusting. Gimme ranch dressing anyday. ;)

Hah, this is too funny, I did a ranch dressing with french fries thread a few weeks ago :)

I love it like that! Vinegar, eh, I've never tried it.

I should do a "I'd rather eat shit than mayonnaise" thread. :)

Fries - Ketsup.

That is all, there is nothing more.

I first experienced this as a child at the county fairs. I love it though...wish more places had the option...yummm

I seem to like mustard.

What I really love is the sweet and sour sauce at Mc. Dee's for my fries. I love that.

Vinegar and salt and fresh ground pepper along with gobs and gobs of Mayo...

...shades of Belgium. That takes me back 28 years or so. Some things my family has not forgotten (the other Belgian thing is Stella Artois)

My youngest has us hooked on honey mustard with french fries. The Dutch have a mayonaise they put on fries.

You're right. The vinegar with fries/chips is mostly of British origin -- back to the fish & chips. I prefer Malt Vinegar if I'm going that route.
