having just had my first story posted, there is already a link to it under Story Feedback, I was surprised to look and see that although the story has had over 7000 views it had received only 16 votes.

Although it has attracted a good score for a first effort it is not particulary accurate given the huge difference between viewer numbers and voter numbers.

Does anyone else find this fustrating, or is it just to be expected.

Hiya, BKeeney,
One important thing as a lit. writer you forgot to mention: You can post long, repeated, endless, pointless suggestions as to how the voting, score posting, and general running of the board can be improved.
Helpfully,

That's actually a pretty good vote to views ratio -- one vote/1000 views is closer to normal, so you're nearly double the normal voting rate.

Views dont' mean how many people read your story, just how many times the page has been opened.

My normal practice of checking a story to see if it's worth reading, and then saving it to disk to read later generates two views before I ever actully read the story, and actually reading it doesn't generate any views at all (since I read a copy of the story.) If I feel strongly enough to go back and vote on the story after reading it, that generates a third view.

Hi yo, Silver!

Dear Mr Harold,
If I went to all that trouble to read and vote on a story, I'd be too grumpy to give it anything but a "1". Then, of course, I'd be oblidged to write the author a invinctive filled, rambeling, obscene screed for feedback.
Happily,
DG

Ps. I'd still like to know what happened to Prince Jonnie. He was fun.

I don't waste the time or wear and tear on my stomach lining to go back and vote on anything that doesn't deserve a five or better.

WH's AV

Dear Mr Harold,
Whenever you post something, I have a hard time getting past your avathingie and paying attention to what you write.

That is the all time best AV and you should be glad you have it because I sure as hell wish I had it because it makes me jealous every time I see it I really wish I had seen it first.
Whew!

My Avatar is a picture I took of a hairy little troll doll my daughters gave me for Father's Day many years ago.

It's not likely you could have seen it first, as I think it is possible that the doll is nearly as old as you are. ;) (It's about 20 years old.)
