What is a good ratio of your story being viewed and the number of total votes for it? The number of Views does not mean it was read that many times, right? If you want to change the tag line, does that help get more people to read the story? How long does it take for your story to re-posted if all you do is change the keywords and tag line, and do you lose your current votes?
Thanks for any comments and Merry Christmas to all.

What...you can repost...

For me the ratio of votes to hits varies as to what category the story is in, I have found that the Romance readers are the most generous...

As for the other part of your question, I had no idea you could pull a story and then repost...

And a Merry Christmas to you too...

Votes to reads is probably something like 0.1-0.5% for me, which is something like one to five votes for every 1,000 views. Like darkside says, it can vary from category to categpry, but I think that's more or less typical of what most authors get.

A view only means that someone's clicked on the story. Doesn't mean they've read it. There's no telling what the read/click ratio is. I have a gut feeling that maybe 1 in 10 clickers read all or most of it, and a lot of them probably just skin looking for the good parts.

I've never changed a tag line so I don't know about that, but I also have the feeling that once stories leave the "New" list, people select them based mainly on the author's name or the Top Lists. People claw and bite to get on the Top Lists. It's not pretty.

If you change a title or tagline (I don't know about keywords. I've never heard of anyone changing these, since the editors usually take care of this), you're basically resubmitting the story. You should always add a note in the Comments box of the submission page that you want this story to replace the old story. The title of the story should always have "(Revised)" added to the title so the editors know it's intended to replace the former version. It'll be treated like a new submission and take as long to be posted as a new story.

If you make it clear that this is a revised version, I think you keep your former votes and comments.

And Merry Christmas too.

Description, right?

Makes a big difference. As you know, title and description are what make you click on a story, and that's half the battle competiting against a gazillion other stories on the site. I didn't know how powerful a description could be until the Lit gods that be changed my description. I was blown away by the results, which is probably triple everything of any of my other stories.

Go for it.

And welcome :rose:
