I posted these two questions at the Author's Hangout Forum but am addressing it those who read but don't write stories here as well.

Of the stories you click on, because they catch your interest, what percentage do you actually read to the end?

Of the stories you read, what percentage do you vote on?

Do you ever vote on stories that you don't finish? If so, why?

TBH, I have never voted. Some of the stories are pretty well done. A lot of others aren't that great, but they weren't really written with the New York Review of Books in mind either, so who am I to tell the author that they didn't meet my standards?

I get my fill of negativity here. :)

As an author, and, sort of, on behalf of authors, I appreciate you're desire to be kind and thoughtful.

But I'd like to make a suggestion: vote anyway. Make a comment.

Maybe you're not a professional reviewer, but your opinion counts, too. If authors wrote only for professional reviewers their audience would be limited to a handful of people and they'd never be able to make a living.

Constructive criticism is welcome. Ask yourself as a reader: what could the author do to make the story better? Letting the author know your opinion about that is something many, maybe most, authors really want to know.
