Views and Public Comments questions.

As a new author here, I was wondering if anyone might be able to answer a few 'newbie' type questions.

1. The View count. Is that the number of times people have started to view the story? If a story has multiple segments, does the count go up each time a person views the next segment in a story? I would not think so, but thought I would ask anyway.

2. Are Public Comments for stories somewhat rare? As an author I look forward to public comments, (well the positive ones anyway - grin) and was wondering if there is any way to encourage readers to leave public comments. Or am I opening up a can of worms that is best left closed?

3. How does one post a 'story' as a novella?

4. Is there any problem in posting a story in both the 'story' and 'novella' categories?

Thank you for any information you can provide,

As far as I've noticed, the number of views is how many times the story/chapter is clicked on. That doesn't necessarily mean the entire story/chapter was read, but it was opened to view.

I'm sure someone will jump in here and correct me if I'm wrong. :)

Comments depends on the popularity of the author and the popularity of the category. Other factors might be if it's posted during a special contest. There are of course, the categories like Loving Wives where you may not want to get as many comments. Readers can be downright brutal there.

Some people get tons of comments, some don't. I don't think there's any way to encourage readers to leave comments. Either they will or they won't.

I myself will leave a comment on a story that I liked and I'm more prone to leave a comment for authors I like reading. However, I have left comments for authors I've never read previously. There are also times that I can't really think of anything more to say than "I loved this story" and while I know many authors would appreciate that, I usually don't leave a comment if that's all I have to say. But I do ALWAYS vote.

Again, I'm sure someone will jump in here and elaborate more or correct anything I may have gotten wrong.

3. How does one post a 'story' as a novella?

Novels and Novellas is its own category so if you have a multi-chapter story (or a particularly long one chapter story) that has many different elements (Incest, BDSM, Group Sex, etc) this category may be your best choice. You'd submit your story as you would normally and select Novels and Novellas for your category. Once it's off the "New Stories" page, however, your views may drop drastically. N/N isn't usually one of the more popular categories unless you're a well established author.

4. Is there any problem in posting a story in both the 'story' and 'novella' categories?

I'm assuming you mean cross-posting to more than one category? The answer is no. If you post a story in one category, it stays in that category unless you change it (by submitting an "edited" version and requesting it be moved.)

However, if you have a multi-chapter story and one chapter fits better in say the Group Sex category, but another chapter fits better in Romance, then you can do that. Each chapter will show as being listed in different categories, if you post the chapters separately. If you have a multi-chapter story but want to post it as one complete story, you can only choose one category for it.

Hope this helped. Welcome to Literotica.
