From here:
On Monday night, Hurricane Sandy hit the armory of the New York Army National Guard’s 69th Infantry Regiment, leaving the soldiers without power, hot water, or anything but the most rudimentary means of communicating with the outside world. So the next morning, the Regiment’s officers made an emergency plea — to the producers of the Victoria’s Secret fashion show.

As they had done for the last three years running, the lingerie company was holding its annual television event at the Regiment’s historic armory, located at 25th street and Lexington Avenue in Manhattan. For the show, the producers had hauled in eight massive 500 kilowatt generators. Of course, the producers said, we’d be happy to help. Hours later, the lights flashed back on.

“We were dead in the water until Victoria’s Secret showed up,” says Capt. Brendan Gendron, the Regiment’s operations officer.

It’s one of many unexpected turns the New York Army National Guard has been forced to take as it copes with the chaotic aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. On Tuesday afternoon, the Guard was about to ship 450 soldiers to Missouri for a mock disaster drill. Now, not only are those troops staying in-state, but the New York Guard is getting ready to accept nearly 1,000 additional soldiers from the Ohio, Massachusetts, and other states....The initial call to the Victoria’s Secret crew came at about 7:20 on Tuesday morning. Consulting producer Dave Shapiro and his co-workers were staying a block away at the Hotel Giraffe. They came over, and ran some feeder lines from the Aggreko generators through a transformer and into the building. Some basic lights in the hallways and the basement’s hot water heater were back up and running. It was enough to get started.

Then one of the associate producers suggested they might be able to power the whole armory up. They went into the basement and found the main switch connecting the century-old landmark to the lines of Con Edison, the local utility. The idea was to shut down the connection between Con Ed, then attach the Victoria Secret lines during to the armory’s busbar — the long metal strips that conduct electricity to a switchboard. It was a kludge, and it had to be done right: the producers didn’t want to fry the building when the local Con Ed substation finally started generating electricity again. “I have to admit, I was very skeptical,” Shapiro says.

But it worked. By 7 p.m on Tuesday night, the armory was fully powered; even the elevators worked.
Bra and panty power saves the National Guard! Hoo-rah! There's a plot bunny in there somewhere...likely two in the DDD cups. :cattail:

I cannot help thinking that some of the models, dressed (?) in their Victoria's Secret gear, would warm the hearts (?) or most of the National Guard without the need for electricity. . . .

Theoint I got from thisis P3's work. Outsourcing to private companies with there skill and knowedge is the best thing for the public. When im mayor that's how my burb will be run. With bra's and DDD's.

Cuz they look like undernourished 12-year old boys in wigs to me.
You have to look at the actual Fashion Show models. I can't speak to the rest of their bodies, but they look busty enough on top to me:

Isn't that what Victoria's Secret's famous for, making you look like you have boobs, even if ya don't. :D

I think you mean, ESPECIALLY if ya don't! ;)

I knew a certain young lady many years ago who had no boobs at all but she had a pair of nipples that were magnificent. The were as big as the end of a pencil and a half inch long. Suck and lick those things just right and she could come all day long.

My point is, it's not the size of the boobs but the sensitivity. ;)

Oh, and that big block of print you have in your bios, if you break it up in small groups, more people are likely to read it. JMHO, of course.

I thought that was what made Gossard so famous: The "Wonderbra"

Sensitivity is a wonderful thing.

Holy crap, you're right about that block of print that is passing itself off as my bio. I tried to double space between entries, but it doesn't seem to have worked. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

1/3 to 1/2 padding. Nothing for a girl like me. If those models ever modeled bras like this,

They'd be exposed for the flatties that they are.

The point isnt the boobs but that a private corp came to the rescue.

No, the point is that a bra & panty corp helped out the military. And that's funny.

I believe hidden in here is the truth that privatization works. Certain government functions can be done more efficiently, and cost effectively if outsourced, to private interests. The citizenry then get a more responsible bang, for their hard earned dollar.

In this particular case, one company happened to be around with the equipment some people needed-- but that was pretty unusual circumstances, Victoria's Secret happened to be there, because they happened to be shooting commercials. Being on location is not Victoria's Secret's primary business. (and the generators were rented from another company anyway.

Disaster relief doesn't create profit -- not unless the company extorts from the victims. Since profit is the only driving force for many companies, I don't know how you're going to get enough privatization to cover such gigantic disasters as this one.

Stella has a very good point here.

Bullshit

Bullshit. Did a single private organization get medical supplies to the victims more efficiently than the government? Did a single private organization save the trapped individuals more efficiently than the government? And did you notice that the military here (i.e. government organization) was the one going out to do all the hard work (not the bra and panty company) and all this private organization did was provide generators--free of charge?

If you see this as a showing of what privatization can do, then you're bullshitting us, you're bullshitting yourself, grasping at straws and living in la-la land. None of the evidence, even in this instance proves your point--it all negates it. Down to the fact that the corporation offered up its generators gratis. As a favor.

Now stop trying to make this thread into your bully pulpit of lies and bullshit. This is for authors to use for plot bunnies. Go take it to the GB.
