JENA, La. — The family of a white student allegedly beaten by six black classmates in rural Louisiana has filed a civil lawsuit against the teens' parents, the adult teens, an additional student and the local school board.

One teen, Mychal Bell, pleaded guilty to battery in juvenile court on Monday in the attack. Five other teens face criminal charges in the case and are awaiting court appearances.

Justin Barker, 18, and his parents, David and Kelli, allege in the suit that seven Jena High School students attacked Justin on Dec. 4, 2006, as he left the school gym.

The suit names the attackers as the "Jena Six" students — Bell, Bryant Purvis, Robert Bailey Jr., Carwin Jones, Theo Shaw and a juvenile — as well as a second juvenile.

Law enforcement officials have not named the second juvenile as one of the attackers.

"Petitioners show that Justin was singled out by Mychal, Bryant, Robert, Carwin, Theodore (and the two juveniles), and that the malicious and willful attack of Justin was of such extreme nature so as to require emergency medical care and treatment for the harm inflicted by the attack, and resulting in extensive and permanently disabling injuries," the lawsuit states.

Barker was hit by Bell, knocked unconscious and then repeatedly kicked and stomped by a group of students, according to testimony and court documents.

The beating was preceded by racial incidents, including three white students hanging nooses from a tree.

The civil suit was filed Thursday. The lawsuit alleges that the LaSalle Parish School Board, through its employees, was not adequately supervising students or maintaining discipline.

Lawyers for the Barkers and the defendants couldn't immediately be reached for comment.

Bell, who pleaded guilty in juvenile court to second-degree battery, was sentenced to 18 months in the custody of the Office of Youth Development.

Bell and the other students were initially charged with attempted murder. In May, Bell was convicted as an adult of aggravated assault, but the conviction was overturned. The conviction led to a protest in September by at least 20,000 demonstrators.

I wonder if money donated to pay legal defence expences can be used to pay cuvil judgments.

They say most of the money went to cars and vacations.

If I lived in Jena, I would have spent the money on a car too.

If I lived there I would spend money on a car and enough gas to move.

I do wish they would do soemthing to curtail all of these bullcrap lawsuits, this kids family is simply trying to make money off of something he started. He had help in starting it of course but why else would he get his butt whooped by 6 guys if he was not involved in the nooses and everything else.

The way it came out, he was not involved in the noose incident.

As it is, getting stomped by 6 people is probably grounds for some damages. I doubt you would take a beating like that and then feel you were owed nothing for it.

When I was 15 I was on vacation at campgrounds for UAW members. Soon after I got there, one white man who was 18 allegedly said something racial about black people. He was quickly attacked and while I don't know the details he did walk around with a black eye. While walking through a hallway with two boys I had befriended, one 14 the other 13. Two black men, around 19 or 20, raced through a hallway to catch up with us (unbeknownst to us) and one got right up in face saying,"what'd you say? WHAT DID YOU SAY?" He was pissed and about to hurt me until till companion said,' That's not him.' My confronter said,'What?' and his friend said again,"that's not him. That's just a kid.' And they left.

Later he did come up to me and apologize , which made me think much better of him.

Now here's a kid beaten to unconsciousness by a group of boys and men then continued to be beaten while unconscious. I'm surprised he's still alive and I wouldn't be surprised if he's got permanent and serious physical disabilities now.

And then we hear morons like you talk...

With a single paragraph you just told the world that you're anti-white males.

I think the Jena story, if you're interested, needs to be looked at beyond the headlines, the wire copy and the TV news.

Bohemian thank you for proving you are both an imbecile and can't comprehend what you are reading. :D

I said he helped do the racist things and rather got what he deserved. His family then going on to sue the families of the people who beat him, not prove to everyone that he did not help put up the nooses or anything of the other things done to the different colored people at their school.

For the record, I am against anybody with color before their name or giving themselves a title because they are fair skinned or dark skinned or green skinned, whatever it happens to be. We are all the same damn thing, human.

Well in certain cases that is rather kind to be calling someone since they obviously have a lower brain function.

For your further information, I am a woman who happens to have red hair, big breasts, green eyes, and living with a man who happens to be fair skinned with big well everything. What do we call ourselves besides our names? Man and woman, he isn't a white guy, I am not a white woman, we are simply a man and a woman who happen to have fair skin.

If you can ever actually comprehend of this, namely that a color of someones skin only talks about how much sun they and their ancestors got than what race they are, perhaps I shall actually lower myself to engage in a conversation with you. Then again i doubt it, I have seen the drivel you pass off as a conversation.

People have sued for less.

In Jena, Louisiana, it is legal for a white kid to point a gun at a black kid for no reason, but it's illegal for the black kid to take the gun out of his hands.

http://rawstory.com/news/afp/Racial_demons_resurface_with_nooses_05242007.html
Then a black student was beaten for showing up at an all-white party. And a white youth pulled a shotgun on three black teens at a convenience store.

Jena, Louisiana created an atmosphere of permissiveness towards racism. So the black kids, with no hopes for justice, struck back.

Jena Louisiana was essentially a lawless place until black people started retaliating. Kind of like the General Board. White racists have the run of this board, but when someone gives them their own shit right back, all hell breaks loose.

That's why we have so many Cade is Here clones now.

I read that the woman that started the fund drives a brand new BMW and got a new home and she had nothing before.

Big Al and Jesse are going down, in the General Lee, to set things aright.
