I am sooooo proud of my son.
I promised my son that when he was tall enough to fully depress the clutch on the truck, I would teach him to drive. For the last 2 or 3 months, he has been practicing starting and making small distance in the truck and chickening out.
(We have been doing this in the church parking lot after church each Sunday. This week is VBS and we have been working each evening afterword.)
Tonight, his buddies all came out to cheer him on and not only did he start the truck, but he also successfully backed it up and drove it forward to the edge of the street. He then took it out of gear, put on the brake, and hopped out for me to take over.
He looked so excited and I know the thrill of this accomplishment was a complete pleasure for him. And a boost to his ego.
After all, how many 9 year olds have the most basic skill of driving down yet?
: ) : ) : ) : ) : ) : ) : ) : ) : ) : ) : ) : )
(And no, he is not street driving--just getting used to the idea and the most basic things--this way, he will be good at that by the time he is really driving and can focus on the road and other drivers more instead of his own feet. And besides, I really want him to be able to drive us out if I break a leg while we are out camping or something!)
