I'm living in Japan right now, so also dealing with a huge time difference. My advice? Take the lead. Read some threads, find posts that you resonate with, and message the person. Ask intelligent questions and comment on things that they've written.

Time difference or no, waiting for PMs to flood your inbox won't get you anywhere. You're the one who wants to chat. If you're too busy to PM the people you want to chat with, well, they're too busy too.
