Vermont has become the fourth state to legalize gay marriage — and the first to do so with a legislature's vote. The Legislature voted Tuesday to override Gov. Jim Douglas' veto of a bill allowing gays and lesbians to marry. The vote was 23-5 to override in the state Senate and 100-49 to override in the House. Under Vermont law, two-thirds of each chamber had to vote for override.

I'm gonna go out and buy some Vermont Maple Syrup

My oldest daughter and her partner were talking about getting married next year in Vancouver, B.C. They may have their choice of states in the US by then. :)

*Snerk* I just finished posting the same thing in the GLBT Chatter Forum. ...and, yeah, I'm crying... and smiling... and hoping California gets THEIR act together, someday...

The trolls will find plenty of fodder here.....

Although in reality (where they don't live) marriage between two persons, or three persons or however many persons should be between those who enter into the spiritual and legal union of marriage and no one else's problem.
Until they want to get divorced, but that's why there are clergy and lawyers.....
So, what I'm saying is good for those folks in Vermont, and anyone who wants to get married there. Two guys, two gals, two gals and a guy, whatever......it makes no difference to my relationship.....

As long as at least one state has legalized same sex unions, it leaves the door open for other states to recognize them, even if they don't legalize them.

Who knows, the way things are going, maybe the wife and I will be able to get married in the States as well before I'm too old to know what the fuss is all about..........wouldn't that be wonderful? What a party we could have!!

Will it involve maple syrup?

mmmmm, maple syrup.

Oh, and good on the Vermont Legislature as well.

Ya don't have to go... just call my mom and ask her to send you some
Hooray for your mom who lives in Vermont

And, nope, I'm gonna go buy some. And I'm going to tell every one I know to go buy some, too. In fact, I think we should send out some sort of chain-e-mail telling people to buy Vermont syrup so that Vermont sees a sales boost and realizes that we're patting them on the back for this (but not their asshole governor!). Call it positive reinforcement or just a nice thank you for doing the right thing.

Seriously. Let's start a campaign and get everyone and their buddies to buy just one bottle of Vermont syrup in celebration and recognition. Maybe have a pancake breakfast for Easter Sunday where it can be put to good use...er, other use, that is.

Now what can I buy from Iowa?

...corn?

D.C. Recognizes gay marriages from other states:

And as the Icing on this maple-flavored cornbread.....

From the Washington Post:
The D.C. Council voted today to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states, on the same day that Vermont became the fourth state to legalize same-sex unions. Domestic partnerships are already legal in the nation's capital. But today's vote, billed as an important milestone in gay rights, explicitly recognizes relocated gay married couples as married.

Iowa a few days ago, Vermont now. So, let's see if we can keep this tempo up, shall we? Who's next?
