Verification email not sending upon new registration

Hello,

Are certain email services not allowed to be used for registration purposes? I'm trying to sign up using a lesser-known email service and I'm not getting the verification email. I tried twice and my spam is empty.

The reason I'm trying to sign up for another act is I want to change my nick. I read somewhere that getting a new act is the way to accomplish this.
