VE Editors not responding

I am looking for an editor: I did a search, carefully went through pages and pages of editor listings, found one the seemed appropriate, sent a message, got no response. After three days, I started over, found another good choice, sent a message, got no response.

So it is beginning to seem like that avenue of editor seeking is a dead end. It may be that the list contains old out of date listings. Or it may be that editors get tired of it and quit responding.

One thing I am wondering though is that I checked the box for me to get a copy of my messages to the two editors, and never got the copies, so I'm wondering if they might have tried to reply and not been able to get through.

I might just post here and ask for an editor, but it seems more random as to who might volunteer. My story is a brief story of a woman who posts provocative pictures of herself on Literotica, inciting her lover by her pose to take her forcefully. I was hoping for not only spelling, grammar and such, but broader suggestions for improving the story.

You might want to drop Laurel a PM or e-mail Manu via the webmaster address in the "Contact Us."

Lit has had occasional problems in the past with its e-mail redirector function holding e-mails for up to a week or so before sending them out -- if you didn't get the copies then it's entirely possible the VE's never got the originals. You (and the VE's) might wind up getting them eventually or they might have just vanished into cyberspace forever.

Thanks, I'll try that.

No guarantees, but the possibilityof a glitchin the e-mail redirecter needs to be checked out and it does seem that a glitch might be behind your problem.

That doesn't explain why so many VEs don't respond promptly though. I wish there was some way to keep the list updated more accurately and remove the VEs that don't bother to remove their names when they give up. A temporary glitch shouldnt have caused the numbers of complaints about VEs not responding to requests that I've seen pop up.

There is. On another board's VE system, every month or so when you log on it asks if you are still interested. If you ignore the question it drops you to "temporarily unavailable". If you don't log on for six weeks it drops you to "temporarily unavailable". To get back on the list, or even to stay on the list requires a positive action from the VE.

Thank God for the both of you guys :) That's a complaint we, serious editors, receive so often, it should be one that is taken care of too. Don't know for you both but I've sent request after request, c/p complaint emails I've received to Laurel and Manu concerning this problem and never got an answers. Maybe if we all, as a group, sent them a copy of every mail, message and or PM we receive regarding it, maybe, just maybe we could make a difference?

I will volunteer if you want to take a risk

I have thought of volunteering as a VA, but doubt I have the time to live up to the commitment on a large scale. I am a copy editor by profession and would be glad to try to help you. Having read your "bio," I think it would be a hoot to play with you girls. If your bio is a lie then I want to meet you anyway. Such creativity deserves attention and support.

If any of those complaining are complaining about me...just to let y'all know, I've had to reformat my computer three times in the last couple of weeks, and have no way to contact those that contacted me right before/during that time.

Nope Ms Cloudy...nobody ever complained about you...not that I was expecting anybody to either :) You live up to your reputation of being accurate, thorough and quick....sigh if only everyone was like you :)

^^Honestly that wouldn't be bad. ^^

And don't worry if you can't do a ton of editing. You can always reply ... I'd love to but I can't right now, or I'd love to but I'm in the middle of real life, you can either choose someone else or if you're willing to wait I can handle it by xx date.

And I've occasionally gotten requests to do editing and sent back a sure send it... and their account won't accept my email b/c thier spam blocker. Just saying you might want to look at those settings.

That's exactly my point. It takes 30 seconds to reply one way or the other. It's not like you're taking anything away from your RL. What gets my goat is when I receive a complain from an author telling me they sent a request, got a reply, sent their story and then never heard from the VE again

Why accept to do anything if you know you can't or won't have the time is beyond my understanding. I think, IMHO, it's even worse than no reply at all. You get your hopes high and are made to crash from even higher then :(

Shared frustration

Smy3th,

I can certainly identify with your frustration on the non-response matter. My frustration stems not from non-responses from any volunteer editors, but a lack of response from the webmasters.Joining last week I had initially sent an inquiry via the feedback form asking if two stories I had published earlier this month on bdsmlibrary's site could also be published on literotica.com.I also pointed out if this previous publication on another site was a problem,I would refrain from submitting these two stories. On the 20th of August I sent a 2nd inquiry via e-mail with the same message and as of this writing have not received a reply.

I appreciate some of the members pointing a problem with "redirectors" and the like that seem to be running interference with this type of communication.
Do any of you happn to know if such a policy regarding previous publication on other sites exists, especially when it is the original author seeking to submit these stories?

Literotic does not require exclusive permisssion to publish. There are several stories here that I know are also on other sites that I frequent. If you have posted thenm elsewhere under a different username, I'd make a note of that in the comments field but other than posible confusion over whetehr different nmes re the same author or not, Idon[t know of ny problem with submitting stories elsewhere and at Lit -- in either order.

I have done this both ways, and even posted here (a story no longer up) under two different user names at different times.

Check the agreement with the other site first, though. (That's the terms and conditions that you never bothered to read.) You may find that you have given some other site exclusive use of your story.

A warning to Brits: The terms and conditions at the BBC says that if you submit a story idea to them for possible use as a TV play, you have given them the copyright for all time, and may never use it again anywhere, whether they use it or not. You have also signed away your Moral Rights under sections 77 and 78 of the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988, so that if they do use your idea, the BBC does not even have to admit you wrote it, let alone pay you for it!

Excellent Advice

Snooper,
Thanks for the excellent advice on checking the other site's policy on posting stories on other venues .Certainly you are correct that the terms and conditions of each site is too often given a cursory glance by the applicant
and critical details are often overlooked in the sea of "fine print" therein.I am certainly going to go back and check on that policy on the other site before preceeding further with submitting these two stories on the site here.

Looking for a Mentor

Greetings all:

I too have tried the regular VE list and the back up list here on this thread. I have saved all PM and email requests I sent out. Still not a word. I noticed there are several Editors who seem active in these threads here, so will try posting here.

I have two books self published and on a few online ebook sites. I am currently working on book 3 of the series. Still waiting for approval of the first two parts here on Lit, plus have written 5 chapters of book 3. Figured I would wait and see reactions first.

If anyone here has time to give some helpful advice, would love it. I write BDSM, erotica with a twist, and its very heavy into major Dungeon scenes. My books are about a Master who opens a Dungeon for His girls. If you receive the official invite, and pay the price, you can enjoy His sluts.

Thanks for considering this

I can't understand why anyone would want to edit. I don't even like to edit my own work! But I sure appriciate those who do help me when that happens. I have never had a good experience with an editor from Lit. I wish that were not the case, but just hasn't happened and I'm not an oger.

I have gotten one reply to my numerous applicatons. One! And then she didn't bother to answer. I know that story wasn't all that bad, because it hit well up on the list when it broke in.

So, wha'da'ya think?

I think that you have been really unlucky.....but....it's a complaint I've heard so often, from so many writers that it doesn't even surprise me anymore :( For the past few days I've been talking with a few VEs and we all think the VE system is flawed and needs a complete revision......UNFORTUNATELY, no-one is powerful enough or high enough on Lit's hierarchy to suggest and/or have those changes made.....not even me, all Mod that I am:(

Hey Lady!

I read your essays on editing and utilizing an editor’s skills. Being a teacher, I can relate to your observation about receiving a vicarious thrill when one of your authors grows and becomes successful.

I can’t promise to give you thrills, but I can promise to try. You have the time for just one more “project?”
