For those who haven't heard, there's an issue about vanishing stories and poems that's part of a discussion over at AH, raised by Sweetsubsarahh. It's not just about them vanishing ~ titles remain but little else ~ but also certain characters and punctuation gets changed to gibberish. Most affected are older pieces from mid-2004 and earlier. Possible suspect action might be doing a cut and paste from Word to Wordpad or Notepad. It would save hidden embedded code that might not have had any impact until the recent process of upgrade was begun.

Just to be on the safe side, check your older works.

Eep. Sounds like database trouble. Is the Manu unit notified?

I suggested to Sweetsubsarahh that she contact Manu. It may be that she did.

Last night I did some poking around among some older postings and found some apostrophes turned to gibberish on jthserra's older work and several stories and poems by Wanton Vixxxen had turned into two word entries bracketed by some gibberish. That's when I thought to do this thread to alert the community.

I just checked these same pieces and it appears the problem has been corrected; looks like Manu responded quickly. But I think this serves as an excellent reminder to the community to keep an eye on their postings while Lit is being upgraded.

Since the upgrade began, I am regularly coming across areas where I try to access an older poem or comments and all I get is a blank gray screen. Manu did ask that folks notify the Lit team or PM him when coming across these problems.

So far it looks like Lit is responding quickly when alerted to problem areas and even 'missing' works are being recovered.

thanks Leon. i noticed when i was reading yesterday that some stories had those weird marks in place of apostrophes. i looked at mine and they're okay... but i did notice that i did use a lot of apostrophes in my prose. lol thanks for that lesson. ;)

Okay that's it. I'm getting a permanent marker out and drawing a line on the whiskey bottle.
