I watched it on HBO tonight with my mom. I loved it. Eve Ensler is a visionary. I cried. I laughed. I mused.

It was a bit surreal watching this next to the woman who could only refer to my vagina as "down there," or my "pee pee," when I was growing up, but I like to think I've brought her a long way in her thinking over the years.

I was so taken by the moment that I almost told my mom about my piercing. Almost.

Was it just wonderful? I missed it. I am an HBO slut I tell ya.

It sounds like you had a wonderful night with your mom, that's great.

Morgy, I'm an HBO slut too. :)

You know they always show everything several times. Look for it this month.

TIVO is the best invention ever. I never watch anything in real time anymore. I hear that Vagina Monologues is playing and I have TIVO record it for me and watch it when I want to. :) It's great.

Here in New Zealand, live. :) THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES

An hilarious, eye-opening tour into the once forbidden zone at the heart of every woman.

The Vagina Monologues has become a world phenomenon since it opened on Broadway five years ago. Charmian Smith talks to Rima Te Wiata about this eye-opening theatrical event.

Rima Te Wiata is keen to be part of something women find liberating, so she jumped at the opportunity to direct and perform in the New Zealand premiere of The Vagina Monologues at the Fortune Theatre which opens on Saturday.

"I was attracted to it because so many women who have read it, particularly young women, have found it incredibly liberating," the stage and television comedienne said.

More of a revue than a play, The Vagina Monologues is about vaginas' experiences as separate entities from the women to whom they belonged. American poet, playwright and screenwriter Eve Ensler interviewed hundreds of women about their experiences, and she is still adding to the monologues.

"It's a montage of different aspects of what can happen to a vagina in its lifetime," Te Wiata said. "It's become a notorious piece in lots of ways, for a number of different reasons that you may or may not see in the show, depending on how conservative or liberal you are.

"Some of the monologues are based on one woman's story and some are based on several stories, and I think she's taken a bit of licence with some of these monologues. I just cannot believe what she's put in some! Eve's a poetic and fun person so they whizz off into an original area," she said with a laugh."

The Herald Sun (Australia)
LUCY Lawless, star of the TV series Xena: Warrior Princess, is to star in the feminist stage play The Vagina Monologues.
Lawless, 33, is six months pregnant with her third child. She said her time as Xena had left her mentally, physically and creatively spent.

"For six years, I gave it every ounce of everything I had. It wasn't just the acting. There was a lot of other baggage that came with it," she said.

It's been a year since Xena ended filming in Auckland and Lawless says she is ready for the play written by American Eve Eusler.

"I'm looking forward to it because, much as we think we're all modern, liberated women, we're really not when it comes to our own vaginas," she said.

"I think it'll be a really useful thing to take the stigma away from our attitudes to our own bodies."

Sounds like it is a must see. :)

Check out....

my thread on V-DAY if you have not already

unfortunately I do not have HBO......if I did I definitely would
have taped the show of TVM!

Wonderful show from what I hear.....my sister has seen it at
least 3 times, and also directed a production of it when she was
on Semester at Sea program last spring in honor of Women's
History Month......I myself hope to see it sometime this year in
NYC.....

I have not seen it and shyed away when I read several reviews that said it ended up being hype for sexual abuse. Is this true?

I wrote my own monologues (300+ pages) and left out the abuse. Mine was about the power I found in my genitalia and how I intregrated it into who I am as a person. I plan on writing again and addressing the abuse issues but my original manuscript is about my journey towards becoming a sexually powerful woman. Both shaped me but I wanted my first voice to be one of power. I was tired of being a victim in my mind. It was very healing for me.

I will keep up with this thread and see what Litians think about the monologues. I am always open to another view.

I don't know about TVM being "hype" for sexual abuse....
but HotXbunz......I think that is terrific that you did your
own journaling on the subject.......its more personal and
meaningful! very positive!

Thanks Tigerjen, it was meaningful to me, still is. It is a work in progress.

Have you seen the Monologues? What did you think?

OK, caught your V day thread. I will look at it when it comes on HBO.

I only caught part ...............

I was only able to watch part of it before I drifted off to sleep (my days starts VERY early and I forgot to tape it :( ) I nearly bawled when she talked about the woman that found her clitoris for the first time at 72. AMAZING!!! I'm going to do my best to catch it again. I had been so looking forward to seeing it.

BTW --- Rubyfruit, that's a beautiful AV!!!!!!

you think?

I have not seen TVM live yet but I have read the play
and heard all about it from my younger sister....damn
lucky she is....she's seen the show at least three times
plus directed a production of it on the Semester at Sea
program she was on last spring........I know that I would
enjoy the Monologues being performed live......hope
to see them sometime this year :)

Journaling is always a work in progress, because there's
something new to add always! :)

You ladies have piqued my interested. Can you give me little more detail about it? Can you tell me some of the "revue"?

I'm going to see it next weekend with a bunch of my girlfriends, we've had it planned for months now so I've been avoiding the HBO special like the plague.

We're going to go celebrate our vaginas.

:D

I'm going to go see it when it comes here, starring Margot Kidder.
In addition to looking forward to the show, I'm happy to see that Margot has her career back on track.

Do you have an extra ticket?

She's doing the road tour that I will be seeing in Detroit. I think the NYC production is separate.
