Yes tonight I just got an email from the folks at V-Day
and sign-ups for V-Day 2005 events is ready to go!

For those who don't know what V-Day is all about, it
is a global movement to stop violence against women
and girls. Earlier this year I had organized V-Day in
my hometown, featuring a performance of Eve Ensler's
"The Vagina Monologues" by local volunteers, including
myself. I will never forget that experience, and since
I'm now considered to be "seasoned", hopefully we'll
have a jump start on things for '05!

For those who are interested in organizing a V-Day
event in your community (it usually takes place in
February or March----we had ours in March which was
a lot easier esp. w/ the unpredictable weather around
where we live), I strongly suggest that you visit:

www.vday.org

and there should be somewhere on there to sign up
to organize an event. "Worldwide campaigns" can now
do TWO performances, and "College campaigns" (which
take place only on a college or university campus) still
have three performances. The money raised from the
performances goes to local agencies and groups that
help women and girls affected by violence---and a
percentage of funds raised will go to the V-Day "project"
(this year 2004 our group donated some of the proceeds
to the cause of the women in Juarez, Mexico)...for 2005
I am not sure what it is.

I have been trying to get onto the site but I have a feeling
its getting too many hits, so I will keep trying.

If you know anyone who might be interested please pass
this info on to them, such as the V-Day website.

I am so excited about this! :)

I finally

was able to get thru to the website and sign up for V-Day
2005! It will be a few days before they finally approve
of the application! :)

GREAT NEWS!

I didn't think it was going to be fast but I received an
email VERY early this morning (around 1am EST) that
my application for V-Day event in my town was approved!
YEAH!!!! So I am very happy, and once things slow
down a bit in the next couple weeks things will start
moving for this!

I see people have stopped by this thread but no
other posts other than mine?

There have got to be others out there who want to be
involved w/ this cause..............:rose:

Hi Jenn, I fully support you and this cause. I hope this year I will be able to make it to the show! Keep the info coming, please.

If I had seen this thread before, I would have replied earlier. Guess I just have too many meetings on the brain.

You know I'm here to help out, Jen! :)

October is........

National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

bumping it up for a good cause!

This afternoon I finally got to the library and print out the V-Day
2005 materials including the script for "The Vagina Monologues"!
Yeah! I can't believe its that time again......

Tonight I went to a candlelight vigil in remembering those who
have been affected by domestic violence, as this month is known
as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. It was sponsored
by the agency that I helped to raise money for earlier this year.

After the vigil we all joined up at the agency for refreshments and
an open house, in which we found out more about their local
Safe House (a more updated term for "shelter"), and that I found
very interesting. Volunteering is key to helping them out, so I
encourage everyone here, depending on where you live, to see
if there's anything like that where you are, and how you can help,
even if its donating food and supplies (towels, blankets, etc.). You
don't have to go on a shopping spree to do this, every little bit
helps!

This Saturday from 9am-5pm there's a food drive for the Safe
House that I just talked about.....so I might pick up some stuff on
my way home from the overnite shift and drop it off. :)

Well the Election is over with, Turkey Day is over with,
and now the holiday season under way, its time to think
about V-Day again!

One idea I am contemplating on incorporating into the
V-Day event I am helping to organize is for all the cast
members and those attending the shows to bring at least
one nonperishable food item for the local Safe House
run by the local agency that we'll be raising money for.

I encourage all to do that in your own communities....these
safe houses are run mostly by volunteers and need all
the donations they can get such as food, supplies (towels,
diapers for babies, etc.), and even monetary donations
that can help buy perishables such as milk. Also toiletries
are a big help.....even travel size ones are great.....the
best deal I found for picking up a good amount of
travel size toiletries is at Wal-Mart.......50 cents for a
travel size Dove bar of soap......78 cents for a travel size
bottle of shampoo....etc. etc. etc.

Every little bit counts! :rose:
