I don't get it, how in the world can my story drop in votes by over a third, when a lot of the people who voted asre people i asked to read the story. A vast majority or so.

I just dont get how over a third of my votes could be doubles. I'm finding it really impossible to believe.

I've already posted a PM to Laurel, but i'm sort of in shock over it.

The voting has always been a mystery to me. Take the other week for instance, I had a non-human story at number two on page one, and the next day it was on page three. I mean did a dozen people come along and suddenly decided to give my story 0 votes or what?

I understand how frustrating it can be.

Yea, its Angelic Salvation. Its not actually NEW, but its spost to be finding out if it made number one in the Gay Catagory for April.

thing about it is, I was WINNING the number one spot for April, so i'm ticked as hell. I was number 3, and then of course i asked some people elsewere if they would read and vote, and some one decided to be a dick and voted a one, so now i'm utterly screwed. There is no way my story will win top for april now, not becaus eit didnt win, but because i got screwed.

I absolutely despise the voting system here, but realistically you're stories dont get noticed unless you USE the voting system. I know i never look anywhere but on the top lists, or in the NEW area. I'm so frustrated an angry right now.

As far as I understand it, the story nominees for each month aren't necessarily the ones in the first slot on that category's top list. The (New: only the stories submitted within that month are eligible.) story in that category that receives the highest average vote for the entire month will win the story of the month nomination regardless of its position on the top list.

The reason your story got trolled is because it was at the top of the list. It seems that the people that most often occupy the top position on the top list (or some at least) are quite fond of maintaining that position at all costs. It is a commonly held belief here, that as soon as a new story hits top spot, you can expect it to plummet at least halfway down the page, if not to the second.

The best I can tell you to do is be patient. Laurel does a pretty good job of clearing all undeserved '1' bombs and this will help your score later. And if the story is really meant to be at the top of the list, it will rise up over time. I wish there weren't such loopholes and for the most part, I think the voting system works but it does suck to enjoy the fruits of your labor from honest voters one minute and the next minute find that the competition is bigger than the need to be honest.

Oh yea, i know the spot i hold has nothing to do with the monthly top. I was just saying in addition to having been the top gay story for April, i was also number 3 or 4 during the last month on the top list.

I understand, i hold a top position in The nonhuman catagory as well, Cael's Star, its number two. And that story has been number 1 or two for 7+ months, but the month that it was posted it got bombed so badly that some one else won top story that month for the nonhuman catagory. So, even though my story was number 1 when they were voting on best stories of the year, i was not eligable because i was bombed THAT month.

Its rediculous, really, i am begining to have very little patience. I WANT to win these contests, its clear my writing is good enough, so when a third of my votes disapear, my score goes down, then i get a malicious vote all in the same day, i'm just so frustrated.

I would also like to add, that i have *never* bombed anyone elses story, and i would never do so. I know how much they mean to me, and if they are gaining top position and spot over me, SO BE IT! The readers liked their story better! I would NEVER do that to anyone, its sick and wrong, and i just dont freaking get how people could be so cruel.

If they can beat my score, then great, its notta biggie. I just wish they'd leave my damned score alone so i had the same chance. Too bad more people dont think like me, i guess.

I can empathize and sympathize. I've had to learn not to take the voting so seriously, but it's still a great thought that your work would spek for itself.

Take a deep breath. If you know your writing is good and the majority of your voters know it's good, then you are a very lucky author. I know many who would love to have a story even on the first page of the top list. Keep up the good work and try not to get too down.

I just realized that 'Cael's Star,' was the story stopping me from getting number one spot that day. lol

That was the closest I ever came to getting to the top, although that same story was nominated the best of the month, which can't be bad.

Good writing has nothing to do with who wins contests on literotica, unfortunately.

Sometimes, a good writer will be lucky and avoid the trolls.

Sadly, that often isn't the case.

Hehe! Carl! If you got up top you did good, boy, real real good. I was surprised by how much people loved Cael's Star, honestly i didnt expect it. But i wont argue!!


I Am still writing, i have one for the non human catagory pending, and i am writing my first incest story. It never was quite my thing, but I knew these twins, my first lesbian crushes, hehe, and one of the sisters was always openly going on and on about how she wanted to screw her twin. So i figured i could try and pull on that for the survivor thingie. Its coming out better then expected, though shorter then i tend to write, mostly because i dont have to build up believable relationship, i think.

Anyhoot, i am not gonna let it stop me, i love to write, andi'm good at it.

(OK, this is my first post to any Lit Discussions Board so if I make any errors, just bare with me)

I'm new to erotic writing myself and only have 4 stories posted so far but I have a few at the top of the list for mind control. And I've also noticed how the numbers will change with startling suddeness. "How did I drop a whole point when only 2 people voted?" Mystifies me.

But as far as the blasting of others work, totally thumbs down for me. I guess I'm to honest. But the way I figure it, anyone who stoops to cheating (at least thats how I see it) is just too insacure to deal with failure or rejection.

Sachiaiko, just keep doing what you like to do. I've seen your work, it's top notch. If other have to cheat to win, then their victory is hollow.
