Raid Finds al-Qaida Tie to Iraq

Mar 31, 7:30 PM (ET)

By DAFNA LINZER and BORZOU DARAGAHI

BIYARE, Iraq (AP) - A U.S.-led assault on a compound controlled by an extremist Islamic group turned up a list of names of suspected militants living in the United States and what may be the strongest evidence yet linking the group to al-Qaida, coalition commanders said Monday.

Well damn.

Next thing ya know they'll find chemical and biological weapons.

Well,Before the usual suspects get here.

Its all a lie orchestrated by the CIA,

With full approval of the White House,

And Halliburton:)

(Clearing throat to imitate REDWAVE.)

Those fascists! Storming a compund. Makes them sound like stormtroopers. Mass worker strikes will bring those fascists to their knees.

Good article.
But it re-affirmed what I'd previously understood before the war rather than support the administration's earlier assertion-
El Ansar has ties to Osama & Iran, but not Saddam.

It was a stronghold on the Iranian border of the kurdish no-fly zone, not exactly under Saddam's thumb. He tolerated them because they opposed the other Kurdish factions.

I think the chemical weapons will be found closer to Bagdahd & Takrit.

I'll agree with that.

While I doubt Saddam supported them or gave them $$ or training or men, he still allowed them to live and function within his territory. Doesn't that still make him just as bad?

I guess we weren't able to dislodge them without repeated air strikes, a luxury Saddam didn't have in the no-fly zone.

On the other hand, Nothing could make Saddam good.

Assuming Saddam would ever want them gone at all.
