Has anyone ever used their own name for a character in a story? Do you do it when it's someone you closely identify with (i.e. it's basically you that you're writing about?) Does anyone find it creepy or weird to use their own name for a character while writing?

I do it alot, but that is with stories written for my husband, so you'll see Vicky and Kev in my stories alot :D I only do it when the characters are essentially me (and my husband) and often it is things that have happened, or we've fantasised about.

So the long and short of it is no, i don't mind usig my own name, but only if the character is me. I'd use it on a character I thought was a Vicky, too, but only if she dictated to me that that was her name.

I haven't used my name but I've used other friends.

But someone wrote a story for me using my name. It fi gives me an almost exhibitionistic feeling when I read it.

Yep, Nope, and nope.

I actually used myself in a story as the writer of the story (http://english.literotica.com:81/stories/showstory.php?id=104493) and actually had the charicters murder me in the end. It was fun a fit my odd sense of humor.

The names of the charicters, SelenaKittyn, are pretty much chosen randomly except for that case and the case of "Cyber Cheat". The only problem I found with doing it is the perverted feedback I get in my email.

:p :p :p :p :p BTW :D

Nope. Don't know why. The physical description of the male protagonist in a lot of my stories matches mine though.

Sure in two of my stories I used my name. Was I creeped out? No, it was kinda my feelings I was writing about. All the other names were changed to protect the guilty though. :)

Your story was what actually got me thinking about it. :)

I've used my real name in stories three times... only one of them was actually close to something that happened to me... one was actually a request story and the person just happened to choose my real name (freaky coincidence!) I did kind of start identifying more with the character that had my name... that was a little strange. But my name isn't common and it's weird to see people use it, actually...

I do give a lot of my protagonists red hair in my honor, tho :cathappy:

Never. I'd find it too weird.

I even find it weird when I read a book and some other character has my name. But that's just me.

see I knew *someone* would think it was weird! :D

Done it a few times, in "Closing Time", "Vicki", and "Capturing My Sister". Will probably do it again some time. No shame about it.

I have never used my own name, but have used my middle name. I don't find it creepy but find it odd because it's a way more egotistical approch than I personally prefer, and yet I have and do use lovers names, and names of certain people, including family if it suits the character - more a homage, though. Of course, I write more than one story and can't use the same names, so you will notice a lot of names in my stories that either have the same ring or use the same first letters of my lovers names- IE - 'A' names are big for me.

:D

I've never had a character who would fit my name so no. Although several characters do have the names of people I am enamoured of.

I don't think I've ever used my own name in a story. However, I'm pretty sure I've used a variation of my middle name, but just because I couldn't think of anything, lol.

I've used my name in fun, but have gone back to edit it out since I found it too amateurish. I'd like to think I've grown in a few years worth of writing and would like to reflect that in all my writing now.

I'll add that I rarely have characters that look like me, and almost never give characters the names of close friends or relatives....BUT, when it comes to people I don't like, I use their names all the time. I give the names of people I don't like to nasty, evil characters who end up destroyed in the end! Ha!

I used to think that authors who used their own names in their stories had some kind of complex, but I admit that it did cross my mind once or twice. Most likely I won't do it for security reasons.

Hmmm... I believe Steven King used not only his name but himself as a charicter in The Dark Tower VI: Song of Suzanna. He had himself run over by a truck too. I thought that was gutsy since he hadn't finished the series yet.

Done something similar a few times. "The Training of Melissa" and "Paying The Piper" are examples.

Not in a story, mind you I have only written a couple of stories.
I do it all the time in SRP though. ;)

Not my own name, no. I mean, it's so ordinary it bores me! In one of the tales I wrote for the Snippettsville project, one of my characters was a writer, so I gave him the pen name of Alex de Kok. Ego trip? Maybe.

Alex

Yep

In the same story, I gave another character the first name of one guy, the last name of another guy.

About a year later, when I had googled myself, that combined name turned up in search of "Jenny Raven". Yep, it was the story I had written (A Typical Day, NOT!). The not so funny thing was, I didn't find it on Literotica.

I'm thinking of using first and last names more often. Google seems to find them more readily. Could be a good way of finding ripped off stories.
