We need to stop and remember what the news media is for, it is to report the news. Whether Trump or anyone else is lying or not, it shouldn't be the place of news organisations to opinionate on that.

In theory I’d agree with you...to a point. The issue these days, and clearly the only reason these networks chose to interrupt, is that there are dangerous real world consequences to the spread of conspiracy theories. Should networks allow a foreign adversary to broadly amplify a message that frightens the public into believing a nuclear warhead has just been launched from N. Korea, if those claims were known to be baseless? Or would it be responsible journalistic practice to run a story that there was a massive terrorist plot to bomb the state of California into oblivion, and that the terrorists would be arriving in droves of black pickup trucks; again with zero evidence? Those would both be clearly tantamount to yelling “FIRE” in a crowded theater, only worse; and so is the president’s baseless claims of fraud while there are literally armed mobs of the lunatic fringes of America threatening and intimidating our vote counting officials in several states.

We are in a moment that is akin to severe wildfire conditions, where it would be completely irresponsible to allow anyone to go playing with matches. One would hope and expect that a president of a first world nation would understand such situations for what they are; but of course trump is trump. I’m not sure which is worse: that he is so clueless and self absorbed that he can’t even see the threat of major violent upheaval, or that he knows full well that the crazies are ready for a bloodbath and he’s deliberately amping them up for it. Either way, cutting his microphone off and correcting his blatant lies was absolutely their duty as professional journalists.

So....a President lying and suggesting to interfere with the democratic process is acceptable? Maybe it is time for you to get your news from another source? I suggest NPR or BBC...
