I watched a segment on CNN this morning about a paintball live-fire Marine urban-warfare exercise to take one building in Kuwait.

The Marine loss rate in the televised exercise was 50%, much less than the normal 70-80% loss rate US military experts say we should expect in urban warfare in Bagdhad.

14 Marines, half a platoon, were "killed or wounded" in the exercise by 4 defenders.

Given that the Republican Guard's 20,000 soldiers...Iraq's "real" army, is entrenched mostly in the capital city...how many US soldiers will die trying to take the city and find Saddam?

2,000? 5,000? 10,000? 20,000? 40,000? 80,000?

Good Morning, Vietnam!

Fuck that, drop a MOAB on Bagdad. Its war, kill or be killed.

It's a city of 4.8 million people.

No matter how many bombs are dropped, the army still has to march on the city at some point in order to win the war.

The question is... how many American lives are worth spending to take over a country that already can't feed itself or even fly military aircraft over more than half its' territory?

You think they're going to send mustard gas and VX to the USA by UPS???

What a waste.

Is that what Saddam meant when he said this weekend, paraphrased, I will take the war to Americans anywhere?

Not ALL Iraqi civilians are "inoccent".

Many of them would kill YOU for being American.

Agreed...my point is that the American people have been led to believe that the "Shock & awe" and MOAB type warfare will result in a remote-control, clean war...when the fact is that lots of Americans will die.

Question: How many Americans do you think will die?

Oh, please. Can't you do better than that? Or better yet, go back to whatever hole you crawled out of.

Fuck slit? Well, at least that is more creative than Hanns' calling everyone "cunt".

There will be relative few who die in the scenario you are envisioning.

Western forces avoid MOUT whenever possible (Mobile Ops Urban Terrain) for the very reasons you mentioned. They will almost certainly encircle the city and wait for someone or some group to toss Saddams carcass over the walls.

There is very little rush or need for them to assault the city proper.

Military cremation would alter tradition

Thursday, February 6, 2003 Posted: 3:31 PM EST (2031 GMT)

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Pentagon is considering cremating remains of troops who may die in a chemical or biological attack in a possible war with Iraq, officials said Thursday.

Use of field cremation would alter a longtime U.S. military tradition of making every effort to return each person's body home in a flag-draped coffin.

It is not yet clear if the military would operate a crematorium in the Middle East or how the ashes would be sorted and returned to families.

The Pentagon also would have to address cultural and religious objections by some service members.

The reason for the high-level policy review is the prospect of mass casualties, especially from smallpox or anthrax, that would require the quick disposal of bodies to protect the living.

If adopted, the policy would be used by commanders only as a last resort if regular decontamination procedures are overwhelmed, Pentagon officials said.

Cremation has never been an authorized means of dealing with remains on the battlefield. A final decision on the policy review is expected within weeks.

I was not an acknowledgement of brilliance on your part. You apparently don't know much about Hannsie if you think my saying that was a compliment.

Well, I just heard on the news that stock for Boots & Coots skyrocketed today. Definitely not a surprise.

STOLEN NERVE GAS- PROTECTIVE SUITS

A recent Government Accounting Office (GAO) report indicated that Secretary Donald Rumsfeld’s Department of Defense (DOD) could not account for 1.2 million protective chemical and biological suits needed to shield U.S. troops in combat against Iraq.

“The Pentagon’s inability to pass an independent audit has cost taxpayers trillions of dollars in wasted spending, and now recent evidence shows that Defense Department accounting problems are putting our troops at risk.” Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH)

According to Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH), “the Pentagon’s accounting systems are so bad that several military units actually thought they had an excess of [protective] suits; so they resold suits costing $200 for $3 a piece on the Internet.” But even worse, Kucinich said “some of the suits were purchased by individuals now under investigation by the U.S. terrorism task force.”

But at least the terrorists who purchased the American protective suits will share the same problem with U.S. soldiers: “250,000 of the missing suits are defective, cannot be located, and therefore could be shipped to soldiers in the field,” according to official testimony. Recently, it was revealed that executives from the Isratex Company, makers of the faulty suits, are currently in prison for fraud, save Isratex Vice President Yehudah Yoav Brin -- who fled the country and is considered a fugitive.
