I uploaded a story, but I can't see it in the preview pages, to check the formatting or anything. Is this normal and I should just be more patient or is something wrong?

If you uploaded a file you won't see the text content on the Preview page, only the metadata (title, tags, and category). That's normal.

If you want to see the text in Preview, you need to copy and paste your content into the text field, then save Draft, then press Preview, then Submit.

That's unfortunate, because there is no way of knowing how the text will translate to this format, expecially in a way I can edit. And I would like to know if I needed to use a specific format, say a .txt file, or an .rtf. It would be nice if the guide had more details

The most reliable way to submit is via cut-n-paste, with any formatting such as italics done via the appropriate ( allowed ) html tags. That will allow you to preview.

I used to upload .txt files with the html tags included, and that allowed for preview as well. It had some hiccups when the new control panel first started, and I got into the habit of using cut-n-paste instead, so I don't know if that's working as intended yet. The way it used to work, once you uploaded, it appeared in the story text window as if you'd cut-n-pasted.

I personally write everything with any formatting as usual, and before submitting, do a "find" for italic text, add the tags in at each one, and then save a copy of that as plain text, which I then cut and paste from. ( Maintaining the original with normal formatting as well )

I always submit in .rtf.

I used .txt for a long time, then it suddenly caused hiccups so I switched to .rtf several years ago and it's hassle free. I use plain text in most of my stories - too many glitches with html going wrong.

I use the cut and paste method and type in the HTML tags as I type. The only time I used a .doc file and uploaded it was when I did an illustrated story, which is long gone.
