Unread Messages

In "Private Messages in Folder: Sent Items, why are the messages that I have sent, although Unread, show as "Read"?

I have over the past few days, been sending messages to an author that resides in Australia, knowing the time difference and that he is off-line, the messages read "Read".

The same for a new author today. The author shows off-line, yet when I check the status of the message I sent to him immediately afterwards, it reads: READ. Yet, he is off-line.

Is this just a glitch?

Messages in your "Sent" folder default to "Read" because, as in just about every other messaging platform, it is assumed that you have read the things you have sent people.

I thought the status of sent messages was to inform the sender if his message had been read by the receiver.
