After getting rejected by one particular hot girl, he finds solace with his new roommate - dominant gay man - and they end up having sex (the protagonist was always bi but repressed it). At the end the girl who rejected him earlier walks in on him getting fucked in the arse by his roommate....

A mixed dorm with (semi-) communal showers might work. Say, it's not unheard of for girls to use nominally guys showers in off hours for more convenient place, or other way around. So our male couple fuck in shower, the crush walks in, observe them and decide she might as well take the shower right opposite of them, judging them gays and thus "harmless".

I have it in my head that they're on the bed fucking in the doggy position, and the girl (who's friends with the roommate and has been in there before) has a habit of entering without knocking. But as soon as he has a girlfriend, she gets interested. I suppose that as soon as he is good enough for other guys, that would also suffice to arouse her interest.

Yeah, LOL, I know. It's a chicken-and-egg, ouroboros kind of thing. You can't take it too literally or the logic falls apart. But still, I think it does accurately describe a lot of situations.

Good ideas, I'm not even sure this would be a long story or anything, but that seems like a plausible storyline.

I was going to use the chicken and the egg analogy too, but someone beat me to it. I seem to remember that issue being less prevalent when I was in college, but that was forty-five years ago and my memory might have gotten a bit hazy.

The "gay boyfriend" or "just friends" kind of thing (and the poor guy in the latter situation going along with it) seems more prevalent now too. It kind of depends on how much you believe that the sexual revolution has actually made women increasingly picky over the years. Again, I have to go with my earlier experiences; I'm not up on what younger generations are doing now.

The plot probably has been used before, but that's okay. The way I've imagined it (long before I read this thread) is that two sexually frustrated guys do it with each other, but they claim it's just "physical." They may start off with looking at porn and then masturbating together. (In my day, seeing photos of Chris Everett's tennis panties would have been enough.) It goes from there.

Of course, underneath it all, the guys do have feelings for each other, but they assumed it was just friendship. Thanks for the idea; I may try writing it.
