It was a warm August day and the sun was beating down on campus as all the new freshmen were arriving on campus for the first time. The campus was abuzz with the sound of trunks being dragged across sidewalks, the frantic speech of new students trying to figure out where to go or what to do, and the constant shouting of those helping organize the new students.

Ben Harkens leaned against a tree taking a break from helping freshmen getting their stuff into their rooms. He was one of the many resident assistants in Hawk Hall. Sweat ran from his forehead and he was breathing hard against the tree. Despite looking out of shape at the moment he was actually pretty muscular, his tee shirt clinging to his muscled arms and chest. His long blond hair was tied back in a ponytail and his blue eyes looked blankly down at the grass as he tried to catch is breath. He started a little as he heard a voice behind him.

Kaylia has been traveling for days to get to this particular University as it allowed her kind to enter without discrimination. What she is exactly, no one could tell her, not even the richest specialists were able to figure out her animal features. They have discovered the ancient elven blood, but as for her tail, ears and markings, that has been left undiscovered.

For the longest time they simply assumed she had some snow leopard gene and yet her ears were longer like a lynx. Though her tail matched that of a snow leopard, the blue spots would glow under the full moon and that is something leapards do not do.

Kaylia had gotten to the campus much later than she wanted to and couldn't find a parking spot right away. After going in countless circles, she finally found one and proceeded to pull few bags out. She didn't have much with her and is very unprepared, despite having the list of things she should need. It wasn't that she was lazy or anything, she just didn't know where to find anything. Most of the books she was able to get online, but some supplies she needed to get else where.

She glanced down at the papers in her hand giving her a list of her classes and a name to look for. Kaylia had to ask several people before eventually someone pointed over towards Ben. With a heavy sigh of relief and exhaustion from her travels, she wondered off towards his direction, hoping that he is the correct one that belongs to this name.

"Excuse me... Are you..."

Glancing down at the name again, struggling to make her irish accent not too extreme.

"Ben Harkens? I was told that he can guide me around."

Ben quickly spun around at her voice. "Yes I am...are you one of the girls on my flo..." his voice stopped and he looked her over. He had seen may different species on campus before but nothing as breath taking and stunning as her. His breath hitched in his throat as he drank her in with his eyes. "or?" He finally finished as he forced himself to look away from her. He reached up and wiped some sweat from his brow.

"I see you have your assignment papers there can I see them?"

Kaylia wore a simple burgandy tank top that showed off her naval ring and a black flowy skirt that went to her knees. Flat sandals that wrapped up her calves and some of the leopard markings could be seen. However, she wasn't furry, in fact her skin seemed flawless and almost appeared to have a soft hint of glitter tone when in the sun.

Normally she hated to bother people with petty things such as getting around. Truth is, this campus is huge and the maps were confusing to her. When seeing his reaction though, she blushed as her ears lowered some. Having men gawk at her isn't anything new to her and most the time she shrugged it off. But even she had to admit that he wasn't too bad to look at either.

"Yea sure. There is still a lot of supplies I need."

She handed him the papers which showed that she is mostly into the top notch art and music classes. There were some minor science classes that she is taking for extra credits and for fun. Also that she is on the swim team.

"I am hoping that my books made it here ok, but most of the things wouldn't have survived the long travels."

"Well if you need help getting supplies I can take you to the University store but lets get you settled in your room first okay? How about I treat you to dinner as well so you can get comfortable with the food options here. Do to our...eclectic group of students our cafeteria can be a little intimidating." He said and then offered to take her bags from here. "Here I'll show you to your room"

Her ears perked right up at the mention of dinner and as if on cue, her gut growled in a hunger protest.

"Dinner sounds wonderful! I haven't had a decent meal in days. Travel food doesn't go very far and honestly, isn't the greatest either."

As they walked to her room she started thinking about the last school she went too and how inconsiderate most of the students were to her. So far, this place gave her a nice vibe and she hoped that things will work out better here. Her father is paying for everything, giving her the silver platter that she didn't ask for. It would take a few days for her funds to go through, so until then, she was stuck with the beat up rental car and what money she in her pockets.

"So other than helping out the lost little newbies.. What do you do for fun?"

He chuckled over her excitement about food. "Well don't get your hopes up its campus food so not that great but probably better than what you've had on the road lately. If you want some real food I do have a car and I could treat you to something better quality? My treat as a welcome to campus." He then leans over and whispers in her ear "Just don't mention it to anyone...not really supposed to show favoritism to any of my residence."

When the question about what he does for fun he laughs a little. "Well...thats an interesting question...hmm...We'll I like creative writing, I am president of the math club, and I also write and present papers at local conferences on mathematics."

"Anything is better than plane and gas station food."

Thinking about his offer to take her to a real dinner kind of stunned her. Back home the guys did gawk at her looks, yet never honestly approached her.. let alone talk to her. Shaking her head and reminding herself that this isn't home, well.. it is a new home. A fresh start in a new place. Then she smiled when hearing what he does other than this.

"Math and I do not get along very well. I know enough to get by the classes, other than that, I tend to disappear into my art and swimming. So, you have no worries on me telling anyone anything."

Kaylia was looking all over the place, soaking in every possible detail of her environment. It did surprise her some that there were many different species here, not just a small handful like she expected. That discovery would hopefully make it an easy transition for creating a home here.

"I will leave the dinner choice up to you. I do not wish to burden your other plans or anything. Quality food does sound nice, but I do not want you getting into trouble."

She finally answered his dinner idea and gave a teasing smile before finishing what she wanted to say.

"Besides, after today you will probably forget about me."

"That's to true we'll be living on the same floor as each other and I'll be here when ever you need someone to show you the ropes. Not only is it my job but its my pleasure in your case. "

As they talked they entered Hawk Hall and it was very busy. There are many species moving in, tall, small, winged, bipedal, quadrupedal. Ben and Kaylia weaved there way around the other students and made their way to the staircase where they went up to the 4th floor. "I figure the elevator is busy and you don't have that much stuff so I hope you don't mind a bit of a climb."

Kaylia gave him a curious glance and started to catch certain things that he said. Earlier he used the word favoritism and now he specifically said 'in your case'. She wondered if he was trying to flirt in a very subtle way, especially when thinking about his dinner offer. Sure, he meant the schools cafeteria at first, but she's curious if he is going to attempt to turn it into a date somehow. Oddly that made her smile faintly since it would totally be the first for her.

Then again, it is his job to be nice as well and that reality took root as she followed him through the crowd. There wasn't any doubt in anyones mind while looking at her, that she was extremely uncomfortable with all these people. Her ears were lowered and tail slightly tucked between her legs so it wouldn't get stepped on. Even her eyes were downcast while watching Bens' feet in front of her.

When they got to the stairs, she looked up to see very few people using them as most were using the elevator.

"The stairs are perfect. It never hurts to get some exercise after a long trip."

Kaylia's tone was a bit softer and more passive than before while she forced herself out of a small panic attack. This is what she wanted after all and knew there would be lots of crowds. All the more reason she couldn't wait to get into a routine and let herself hide from the world for a while.

Until she figured while they had a moment of mostly peace, she figured a tiny test was in order to see what he his response would be.

"I am sure I will be fine after I get a routine going again. Also, I wouldn't want to upset your mate by taking up all your time with her. I know all to well how jealous females can be about their mates."

Ben let out a loud belly laugh as Kaylia mentioned his mate. "Oh don't worry the only love in my life right now is mathematics and well...we have an agreement that I'm free to see other people" he says playfully. They make their way up the stairs and onto the floor.

"Welcome to your new home. While the floor its self is coed don't worry its split into three wings where the females get one wing, the males get the other, and any indeterminate genders get the third wing. I am in charge of everyone on the floor, men and women and others alike. There are bathrooms in each wing so don't need to worry about sharing a bathroom with other genders. However there are 30 girls this year in this wing so your bathroom might get a little crazy. Don't worry I've met some of them and most don't seem to..." he pauses a moment and then decides to say it "catty."

Kaylia wasn't too sure about his response, though she is strangely happy to hear that he is free. That is one less worry at least. It would have sucked if she would have been the cause of relationship drama.

"Sounds a lot like me with my art. Though, at time it does get a little demanding, I almost wonder if it gets jealous at times."

She looked around as he described what each wing were for, smiling weakly when he mentioned the girls didn't seem catty. Kaylia had a way of finding those kind of girls though and had no doubts there were some here too.

"I am not too worried about sharing. I am used to...."

She didn't get to finish, which might have been a good thing, as a hyper active female came up squealing and hugged Kaylia. This of course shocked her, but she hugged her back weakly. The long rabbit eared female back up for a moment and smiled.

"I am Ana and I've heard so much about you! We are roommates and we are going to have so much fun! But I gotta run for now, silly registration got so many things mixed up."

She hugged Kaylia again and ran off down the stairs, leaving Kaylia a bit stunned and speechless.

((lol was wondering if you would mind a roommate...making it a bunny...you know what they say about bunnys...))

Ben looked at Ana in surprise and shouted down the all after her "Hey what am I chopped liver? She gets two hugs an I don't get one?" He chuckles and then shows Kaylia to her and Ana's room. THe room was small but functional as dorm rooms go. There were two decks, two beds, a mini refrigerator, and two very small closets. Ana's stuff was EVERYWHERE. Her side of the room looked like a bomb had gone. Ben set Kaylia's stuff down on her bed. "Want to unpack and wait for the ball of energy that is your roommate to come back? Or do you want to head out for dinner? You've probably had a long couple of days so if you just wanted to relax no pressure."

((Gotta love them bunny girls!! ))

Kaylia laughed when he yelled his 'concern' towards Ana and with that, Ana turned around and blew a kiss in his direction. Shortly after she bounded off down the stairs and out of sight.

In the tour video, the rooms seemed a little more spacious, however she knew the basic layout of it. Shaking her head after seeing the messy side of her roommate, Kaylia couldn't help but laugh to herself. Life will certainly be interesting here.

"I would like to freshen up a little, change clothes and such. But dinner is a must! It is easier to relax with a full and happy gut after all."

She looked around the room to see what she had to work with, pushing the bed to see how comfy it is. It wasn't the grandest of beds, though it did seem like it would be comfortable enough.

"Give me about five minutes and I'm all yours...."

The escaped before she realized it and blushed deeply afterwards, turning towards her bags as a distraction.

"Umm yea, anyway.. I won't be long, I promise."

Ben places a hand on her back trying to comfort her a little "I know this is all a little intimidating, if you get homesick there is another girl from your providence three doors down. She isn't like you but at least here is someone else here from home if you need. And I'm always available to talk if you need someone. Anyway I'll let you freshen up and you can come find me. I'm in room 3003, just come on in when your ready to go."

Ben headed to his room and sat on his bed. 'Easy Ben you can't be falling for a student...but she is so hot and cute...and there is so much I could show her...' his thoughts began to drift as he waited for her.

Kaylia watched as he left and her ears laid low wondering what girl he was talking about. She wanted to get away from, not bring it here with her. Then the second thought crept in, questioning if the girl had tracked Kaylia down and followed her to this school. That thought quickly vanished though, knowing full well that certain girls back home would never lay foot in a school like this.

"One step at a time, one day a time. Lets just get moving and stop dwelling...."

She scolded herself while pulling out some jean shorts and a white, low cut t-shirt. After deciding that a shower would be nice, she grabbed her shower kit and headed off to the bathroom. Typically she would have waited until night when no one would be around. In this case, she didn't have that luxury since someone is waiting for her now. Luckily everyone was busy getting settled in that the showers were empty.

Kaylia made sure to make it a quick shower and put on some sandals that laced up her calf, tossing her hair up into a butterfly clip. Soon she head out the door in search of his room. She actually stood in front of his door for a full two minutes with her gut twisting and second guessing. Eventually, she knocked lightly and very slowly opened the door since he said she could come in.

"My apologies for keeping you waiting... I decided to take a quick shower, which felt really good after three days of not having one."

His breath catches in his throat as she walks in the door. The exact picture of perfection in his eyes. His eyes drank her in before his brain allowed him to talk. "it...its fine" he said his voice cracking a little. "Ready to go" he said and then looked down at his feet so he wasn't staring. He then noticed that he was starting to get aroused and he jumped to his feet and pretended to look for his shoes, which were still on his feet. Once he realized this he took a few calming breaths and then grabbed the keys off his desk and his coat which he heald out in front of him. "So what do you have a taste for?"

(ooc:hope you don't mind the direction this went)

She giggled and blushed at his reaction, though she isn't quite sure of what to do with it either. It isn't everyday that men were interested in her, or at least showed it in ways that he is.

"I guess it depends on much of your money I am allowed to spend."

Kaylia teased and thought about it some. Truth is she didn't want to go somewhere too pricey, though she is in the mood for some good steak. That might be out of the question though since he is the one buying and she didn't want to be an expensive date. Most steak houses that she knows of will eat your pockets if you are not careful.

"How about you choose, since you know this area. Someplace that has drinks, I could really use a strong drink right about now. Perhaps a bar and grill, or maybe a pizza place. But, you know what is around here and I don't."

"How about I treat you to steak on your first night in town. I know a place that has killer beer as well as steak." He says trying to regain his composure. He puts a hand against the small of her back and guides her out of the room. "Follow me" he says as he leads her to his car.

Her ears twitched slightly when he mentioned steak and oddly asked that silent question *can he read minds?*. A blush colored her cheeks at the feel of his hand and for a split second, her breath was caught. Quickly gathering her senses though and proceeded to follow him once again through the crowds. This time she wasn't as panicky and held her ground decent enough.

"I am not much of a beer kind of girl. Never did get the taste for it. I like my hard core booze too much. Mostly Rum and whiskey and of course delicious mixed drinks that'll kick you around."

She laughed lightly until she noticed he was parked right next her beat up rental. She bit her lip after comparing the two cars, even if he didn't know that one is hers. What he didn't know won't hurt him right? Perhaps she can get away with him never knowing she drove awful looking thing on wheels. Shaking her head to bring the attention back to him, hoping he didn't notice her looking at the rental car.

"So far I like what I see of this neighborhood. Are the places around here expensive to rent? Eventually I will need to get myself a studio. There is no way I'll be able to work in that tiny dorm room with what I do."

Ben opens the passenger door to his new pick up truck and helps her climb into the cab. "There are apartment complexes that will give deals to students with proof of enrollement in the university. Though you might want to be careful there are some around here that would take advantage someone as beautiful as yourself. You have very unique markings if you don't mind me saying. Hmm so you want steak and mixed drinks...I know just the place."

Kaylia wasn't quite sure of how to handle the complement and she couldn't bring herself to look at him. Of course she knew was beautiful in her own way, otherwise she would wear less revealing clothes. But the point here is that someone else is giving her the compliment and is actually admiring her.

"Thank you... I appreciate the kinds words, but you don't have give me compliments like that. I am not that special.."

She said quietly while picking her tail as it laid in her lap. On closer inspection the leopard spots took on heart shapes. They were not noticed with all the excitement and running around. Now that she had it in her lap as they drove, the spots were more clear than before.

"Perhaps during summer break, you would be willing to help me find a place? If you are not too busy with summer fun that is."

"I can assure you, you are very unique which makes you special" he says and puts a hand on her thigh giving it a small squeeze. "I mean look at those spots" he says motioning toward her tail. He reaches out and traces the edge of one of them with his finger. "Very unique markings in deed."

Her breath couldn't escape when he touched her thigh and tail like that. She isn't all that used to being touched to begin with, then to have someone she barely met.... In an almost intimate way!! It was in that very moment she found out her tail is sensitive. That soft and simple touch made things twitch that honestly shouldn't be twitching in a time like this.

"They... umm. They glow under the full moon. No one knows why though. Some guess that it is a way to recharge my energy. But, so far, I don't have any powers, so what it is being recharged, I have no idea."

She bit her lip while watching his fingers trace the marking. A nagging voice told her to push his hand away, that he should be more respectful than that. On the other hand, she silently hoped he wouldn't pull away as it felt good at the same time.

"So... uhh... out of everyone here.... You've never seen anyone else.. with markings like mine?"

She found it all the sudden difficult to focus on any reasonable conversation. It wasn't as though he was touching her in other ways, it was just her tail. Yet, her heart raced with sensations she's never felt before.

He started to trace other markings on her tail as he drove but was oblivious of the effect, if any, he was having on her. "I've seen others...of your kind yes. I've not interacted much with them, your the first that I've been put in charge of so to speak. But the ones I've seen before have been all one color and certainly one of them glowed in the dark under the full moon. I'd like to see that sometime, you already look so radiant its hard to imagine you being more so." He pauses and thinks for a moment and blushes "I'm sorry...I'm probably being to forward...I apologize if I'm making you uncomfortable." He starts to pull his hand away to see if she stops him.

((enjoying writing with me so far? PM me if you have anything you want me to change/stop/ect))
