Standing on a hilltop bathed in moonlight the figure made a soft laughter that no one heard. If it wasn’t for her white hair blowing slightly in the breeze no one would ever have known she was there. Finally she opened her red eyes and looked down at the town below her. There was a slight sprinkle of rain that made her black skin glisten in the moonlight. The night air was still warm so she had no fear of becoming cold from the slight rain and in fact she welcomed it.
She watched people with a smile on her lips as they moved threw the town without noticing her yet. She rubbed her hands together with anticipation of the fun she would have this night. She then made scooping motions with her hands as if she was picking something up and then made sprinkling motions like she was letting something fall slowly from her hands.
Her smile widened as people began to scream and run for cover in the town below as small pebbles fell on their heads. She had been careful not to pick up any large stones only small ones after all she hadn’t intended on killing anyone……..yet.
She knelt down on top of the hill over looking the town watching the people below with keen interest at their behaviors. She watched in fascination as some people ran for their homes while others stuck their hands out hesitantly to see if any more pebbles were going to fall on them.
The shower of pebbles had been short and only enough to scare people and now that she had some of their attentions, at least thoughts that thought themselves brave anyway, it was time for another move to see what happened.
Her eyes were sparkling with excitement as she slowly raised her right hand off the ground before her and slowly dipped her hand from side to side like she was making a puppet walk. She couldn’t help but to giggle to herself as people down in the town who had thought themselves brave began to scream and run away in fear.
She watched as her ghostly sheet glided, swaying from side to side down the street and past the tavern doors frightening all who say it. Time enough now for the playing to continue later as she made the ghostly sheet disappear around the corner. It was time to visit this town of Black Water and find out who she was here for. She didn’t care much for why she was here only who her next target was.
Whoever she was here to kill must be important in some way or she wouldn’t have been paid half in advance for the job. Usually her targets weren’t treated so secretly either. This was the first time she had to go to the town where she would hit her target to find out who the target was. This little fact unsettled her and made her keep an ear open as she started down the hill and into town towards the tavern.
It took a little while for people to move around again after the scare of the ghostly sheet and she couldn’t help but to chuckle to herself as she walked the same path the sheet did. She stopped just outside the tavern and looked around, for just a split second she had gotten the feeling she was being followed but that was ridiculous because as far as she knew no one knew her here. She was miles away from home and no one there knew what she did for a living except run a magic shop.
They knew she left every now and then but she always came back with boxes of stuff she bought for the magic shop so no one ever questioned her travels. No one knew where her real destinations were and if she was asked she always told them someplace opposite from where she had been. She had always been good at hiding her real job from everyone including her husband. She shook the thoughts of her husband away as now was not the time to dwell on the past or the sadness of it all. She missed Valtor more then he would ever know and she sighed with sadness as she looked towards the swinging doors of the tavern.
She realized how quiet it was suddenly on the streets of the town, so quiet you could hear the slight squeaking of the hinges on the swinging doors from the tavern. She read the sign above the swinging doors and realized this was the wrong tavern to be at. She was to be at the Dark Rapid tavern and not the Lucky Water tavern. That meant she was going to have to go deeper into town to find it. She shrugged her shoulders and began to walk deeper into town searching for the right tavern.
She could have stopped to ask someone but she didn’t want to draw any more attention then she was already getting from people. She didn’t want to stick in their minds if possible and she had gone as far as covering her tattoos so they couldn’t be seen by anyone. It would be much easier to remember her by her tattoos then without them, as she had a white moon being eclipsed on her right cheek and white dots across her forehead and down her left cheek and throat. She covered them simply with black mud that will wash away when she needs it to, as long as it don’t rain to hard anyway.
It took her nearly an hour to find Dark Rapid tavern and what she found she should have expected already. The tavern was in the darker part of town where trouble brewed a lot. But at least here no one would question why she was here or really care as most were only looking for a good time and to spend some money. She was here to meet someone but not for a good time and the problem was she had no idea who she was to meet.
Her instructions were to meet a man here at the Dark Rapid tavern, sit in the back of the tavern on the right side and a man would introduce himself to her and order her a Dark Brew Special from the house. She had no idea how he would know he was the right person or not but maybe he knew what she looked like.
She shrugged her shoulders again and walked threw the swinging doors of the tavern. She entered slowly and stopped inside the doors to look around. Some men were openly gazing at her like they were already undressing her with their eyes and she ignored them. She spotted the seat she was to take open and slowly made her way over and sat down. She thought the man at the table to the right of her was going to fall out of his chair quiet a few times as he watched her walk up to the table and sit down. She was highly tempted to help him fall out of his chair but she didn’t wasn’t to bring more attention her way right now. She would just deal with his leering at her for now as she had business to attend to at the moment. There was nothing she could do now but sit and wait for the man she was to meet.
