From the moment I showered and dressed in that hotel room 5 months ago, I have been able to think of little else other than Steve, the man who turned my world upside down in one delicious night.
We had managed to stay in touch, over the internet and on the phone, but had yet to meet again. It seemed our responsibilities in real life constantly kept us from making definite plans. I had despaired of meeting Steve again, instead resigning myself to brief interludes via the computer and the phone.
When one day I received the following email:
Dear Cathy,
I have reserved a cabin high in the mountains above Denver for a long weekend - just the 2 of us. I believe you will find a flight that leaves Thursday afternoon arriving in Denver in the early evening. I will meet you at the airport.
Steve
I gasp as I read the email. But today was Monday! I quickly look at my schedule, and after checking with my boss, am able to secure the time off. Denver? Now? I envisioned long evenings sitting in front of a fire, the snow gently falling outside.
But then a smile crosses my lips. I've learned a few things since I was last with Steve. Things I had hoped he would enjoy, things I had hoped he would want to try.
As Thursday approached, I found myself eager and anticipating the day. A friend dropped me off at the airport, and I boarded the flight, more excited than I would have dreamed. The flight was not very long, and before I knew it we were touching down in Denver.
I held my breath, as I stood up. Then took a couple of deep breaths before starting down the aisle. I caught the few appreciative glances from other male passengers, and was glad of the tight jeans and soft, form-fitting cashmere sweater I had selected. The heels of my boots added just the right amount of height, and I quickly ran my fingers through my hair.
Walking into the reception area, I notice him almost immediately. Standing back from the crowd, a slight grin on his face. I rush from the crowd and throw myself into his arms. Feeling his body crush against mine, I realize the time apart seems as though to have been but a wisp of smoke in time.
