Unemployment rises, WH calls it ‘evidence’ of recovery
August 3, 2012

President Obama’s top economic aide described the July jobs report — which shows a small increase in the national unemployment rate — “further evidence” that the economy is recovering.

“While there is more work that remains to be done, today’s employment report provides further evidence that the U.S. economy is continuing to recover from the worst downturn since the Great Depression,” Alen Krueger, chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, wrote.

He made the White House’s oft-repeated caveat that “it is important not to read too much into any one monthly report,” but offered today’s numbers as a ratification of Obama’s policies.

“It is critical that we continue the policies that build an economy that works for the middle class as we dig our way out of the deep hole that was caused by the severe recession that began in December 2007,” Krueger said.

Krueger noted that non-farm payroll increased by 163,000 jobs. But the Labor Department figures showed that 195,000 fewer Americans had jobs this month as opposed to last month.

Bigfoot on the run, Scientists declare him missing link.

"A group of high school students may have come close to Bigfoot during a class project in the Idaho wilderness.
A dark, mysterious creature was caught on tape for a few seconds near Mink Creek before it retreated into the treeline.
"It just didn't look human-like. I don't know what that is, it's not a bear, it's not a moose or anything. It was big and bulky and black," said the student who captured the video. He spoke to ABC News' Idaho affiliate but did not want want to be identified on camera.
The students climbed to where they saw the potential Sasquatch and photographed the large footprints it left in the dirt.
"I'm not going to say yes it was a Bigfoot or no it wasn't, because I don't know., and nobody knows," the student told the news station.
The Animal Planet show "Finding Bigfoot" plans to visit Pocatello, Idaho in June to investigate claims that Bigfoot could be in the area."

So you say the students wrote his speech.

Gee! I expected Obama to go on tv and confirm that 8.3% unemployment is worse than 8.2% unemployment, and 163,000 jobs is less than the 250,000 job we need to stay even with our employment needs.

If it was the TITANIC the White House would say the water level is higher, to be sure, but on a positive note the TITANIC is now a wee bit closer to the bottom, so we've made progress.

Proof is in the pudding;

It's official, the job growth for the Obama recession is worse than that following the Great Depression of the 1930's.

Obama has fucked this country bigtime.

There's a quantum difference here:

After the Great Depression, Republicans worked side by side with Democrats to get the country working again.

During the Obama administration, though, Republicans have adopted a scorched-Earth "Party first, Country second" policy that has significantly weakened America.

When Franklin Roosevelt came to office in 1933 the national debt as a percentage of gross domestic product was one third lower than it was when Barack Obama came to office in 2009.

At 63% the top tax rate was higher than it was in in 2009 at 35%. By 1936 that had risen to 79%. During the Obama administration the top tax rate has remained at 35%.

In short, FDR had less debt to contend with, and more tax revenue to work with.

He spent the money expanding government employment with programs like the Civilian Conservation Corps, and the Work Progress Administration.

A Gallup poll of 18 April 1936, asked "Are you in favor of the CCC camps?"; 82% of respondents said yes, including 92% of Democrats and 67% of Republicans.[30]

Government employment had a multiplier effect. When the government hired the unemployed it transformed them into more affluent consumers. As they bought more employers hired more to produce and sell what they bought. Currently Republicans want to reduce government employment.

President Obama made an obvious mistake in forcing through a health plan before addressing unemployment. Nevertheless Republicans in Congress are opposing policies which in the past have reduced unemployment.

Republicans did oppose much of what Roosevelt did. The difference is that Roosevelt, unlike Obama, had the political skill to out think and out maneuver the Republicans.

Am I disappointed with Obama? You bet I am.

Do I think the Republicans have better ideas? Certainly not.

Oh, by the way, Pity the Billionaire is a good read. In that book, the author argues it is ideological purity first, hopefully, the country will follow mindset.

And yes, Obama fucked up.

If 70 or 80 or 90 percent tax rates are great for the economy, 100% oughta be excellent! Only problem is, above the 50% rate the money is a bitch to collect. If you make lotsa money there are plenty of people willing to help you hide it from Obama.

You can, for example, donate piles of your money to Africa Orphans...the money goes to a bank in the Bahamas, which deposits it in an account for the American Librulz Love African Orphans. The Orphans then cut a check and deposit it in your Bahamas bank account, minus a modest fee, but much less than IRS rates.

The government makes nuthin but hot air, and every government job is a service job that offers little service for the money. It doesnt make tires or condoms, or spaghetti or crayolas, or really nuthin. It simply takes the money you wanted to save for retirement and sends Michelle and the gang on another vacation. Someplace nice.

There's a quantum difference here:

After the Great Depression, Republicans worked side by side with Democrats to get the country working again.

During the Obama administration, though, Republicans have adopted a scorched-Earth "Party first, Country second" policy that has significantly weakened America.

Gee, how come you haven't mentioned all the road blocks good ole Harry Reid as put in the path of the bills coming out of the house? Of course you haven't because that would mean you're wrong.

During the 1950s the top tax rate never declined below 91 percent.

For most Americans those were good years. The high tax rate for the rich gave the government considerable power over their economic behavior.

This is obviously not true in the case of public education, public libraries, public transportation, public recreational facilities, public health facilities, and so on.

During the time of the CCC, volunteers planted nearly 3 billion trees to help reforest America, constructed more than 800 parks nationwide and upgraded most state parks, updated forest fire fighting methods, and built a network of service buildings and public roadways in remote areas.[4]

True, but you had so many deductions that the actual rate was right around what it is today.

If you can document that assertion, please do so.

Even those deductions gave the government power over the economic behavior of rich people. It induced them to contribute to charity, to invest their money in ways that contributed to the common good, and so on.

Keyword, Volunteers. So no government paid worker did anything but service work. Administration of Volunteers, service work.

Now for the others...all of those jobs are at the state level and they are still what would be considered service jobs, in other words they produce no product, but provide a service.

There is no government job that would be considered a producer job, with one exception, the U.S. Mint. The only government jobs that produce a product.

Well even the footnote on the chart you so proudly presented says that it is a simplistic view of the rate. One example was that the actual top rate was 50% when the marginal rate was 70%.

Sure, the top 1% may have been effected by these rates, but as JBJ suggested there where/are any number of ways of hiding cash.
