The place where they met was dimly lit but sure enough she stood out. To him at least. He didn't want to mess things up by saying the wrong things so he just found a way to start talking to her and it was one of the few times he actually felt certain. The night was danced and revelled away and before he knew they started connecting and discovering. Eventually, they parted company after exchanging details. They were supposed to meet up again in the weeks that followed. The effect that she had had on him was more than overwhelming and he remembers being on such a natural high. He supposes it would have been premature to have told her that he fell in love with her that night, but she must have known. They never did meet again. He missed her.
Almost four years later, straight out of the blue, she permeated his memory like nothing he'd known before. He tried telling himself that it was just one of those things. Those strong feelings he had for her when they first met came flooding back and nothing made sense for a while. She had disappeared from his life so what was the point of trying to reclaim lost ground? He told himself it was just an illusion and that he would have to be stronger to resist the effect that she was having on him. Deep down he knew something back then that he only confided to maybe one or two other people. His friends didn't help or even care about his reasons. However, fate was also a cruel mistress. Fate never intervened. Despite all the others he'd met, something told him not to let go of what she represented to him and so it came to pass that perhaps fate could not be trusted. But what stayed in his heart for all that time was not deceitful. He knew that being a 'player' would just become more and more pointless as time went on and sure enough, certain moments of clarity helped him to realise that despite there being someone else, she was still the only constant that he believed would have completed him.
It would appear that she had simply disappeared. Out of sight. Out of mind? No amount of soul searching could ever bring her back. Wherever she is, he just wants to know that she is all right. The hardest thing he has to accept is that she probably never understood what she meant to him or even felt the same way about him as he did about her. Even if she did, whatever her reason was for not wanting him to be a part of her life, it seems he would never ever know. He doesn't look for her any more but for what it's worth, he still loves her. Even more now than before.
