Yeah, but it also happens that way, all the time. People read the first line or two and if it's not what they're looking for, go elsewhere. That's not really a bad ratio.

my lowest votes to views is 30 - 4500 +
My highest: 138 - 65000 +

Out of my posted 18 poems, only 4 of mine have 10 or more votes. Hits aplenty.....votes....few and far between.
Strange isn't it.
I have one currently on 4.89, but with only 9 votes , another on 4.83 with only 6 votes......and....believe it or not (blushing here).....one on 5.00.....but with only 2 votes.....at the opposite end, there is also one on only 2.67 and another on 3.67.

*shrug*......I guess yuz has to take the rough with the smooth. I'm just surprised that I have as many as I do with high scores.

Stories fare slightly better.......with hits ranging from 4,000 to 27,000 but actual votes on any story no higher than 67. I guess there's a lot of bailing goes on.

I click "back" all the time - if the writer doesn't catch me in the first four paragraphs or so, I am gone! Click...

Nine votes forever, despite chapters one and three having an H and putting the story up for discussion on the critique board. I believe chapter three is hotter, but there we are.

The mistake I made with No. 2, I believe, was to swap the chapter out of "Anal," where the rest of the series is, into "Erotic Couplings." The views bear this out:

1 -- 18 297 views
2 -- 3 279 views
3 -- 19 618 views
4 -- 11 502

so I think there may be fewer people who follow a whole story than we want to believe, too.

By the way, does anybody know why in the name of sanity you can't get this bourbon anywhere in New England?

Now, in the vein of this thread... my new story posted today has about 1000 views and 7 votes. But then again, I have no idea what to expect from the category. What is a normal number of views for a submission in the Novels category?

I'm finding my experiences with poetry much the same. I've only published 3 -- of those, only one has > 10 votes.

I never quite understand the voting or the views.

I have a story with 200 votes and it has a rating of 4.12...

My first poem, I was told got a lot of votes for so little viewing. The viewing is high - but considering the amount of votes...I don't know..still it's confusing.

This story has been lurking for a long time with only 5 votes.

It is one of my longish ones at 6 Lit pages. That may explain the lack of votes because the readers do not have the stamina to reach the end and vote.

I've 3 pieces that are struggling to get 10 votes -- 2 poems and 1 story.

The story is "Legally Binding" (Humor & Satire). It's just a teaser -- no sex -- and is barely 1 Lit page. It's been sitting at 5.00 and 7 votes for almost 3 months. (As Liar said earlier, it's "just a tiny bit annoying.")

I'm sure -- as happened with another of my pieces in another unpopular category -- if it breaks through to 10 votes & pops up near the top of the Top List in its category, it'll be one-bombed in short order. Such is life. My hope is only that it'll stay over 4.50
