Uncanny!

LOL, now Shemar is cool (as is Marquis).....and undoubtedly romantic in the unusual extremes. For those who dream of being treated like a princess in a fairytale, complete with candles, yum meal cooked, and a rose petal sprinkled bath and bed as a welcome home surprise, this is your man. :D And I do love the tatt he had done designed from the fake one he wore in a recent movie...absolutely gorgeous and a work of art....the tatt and man. :D

This thread is a bit ironic. I'm sure Marquis is thinking the same as he reads it, lol.

LOL, only problem is Shemar has been onsceen too many years to be a 23yo Marquis. :p .....and he is half Dutch!!

LOL, he was the only reason I watched it, and I loved the way they managed to write into the script so regularly that he had to wander around in nothing but a pair of jeans or shorts, or had to change his clothes....on screen of course. :D

I've never heard of the guy, until I watched the show "Criminal Minds" the other night. I just kept thinking the whole time, OMG that's MARQUIS. So I went and looked him up.

SOmeone said he was half dutch, were you referring to Shemar or Marquis, because on Shemar's profile on IMDB.com, it says his mother was white and his father was black, which I THOUGHT that's what Marquis had said at some point?

uhm, Ok, is dutch considered "white" because the bio on IMDB says his mom his white and his dad is black.

alrighty I get it it.

http://imdb.com/name/nm0005245/bio

it says his mother was caucasian, but then goes on to say, she was from Holland. Mistakenly I think of caucasian as white american.

The definition of caucasian differs, it seems, on where in the world you are. This post prompted me to do a couple minutes' research on the web, and apparently people in Europe use the term almost exclusively for people from the Caucasus mountains. And here in the U.S. we use the term loosely to refer to light skinned peoples from Europe, North Africa, and parts of Asia. (Generally speaking, anyone "white" that is not of hispanic background. Or albino. Unless they're caucasian albino, y'know. Then it's okay. But a bit redundant.)

thanks dear, you're far more ambitious than I am :)

Just yesterday I had an intensely militant conversation with a black professor of mine about how arbitrarily racial lines are drawn.

Oh yeah, and we decided conclusively that white people can't dance.

Interesting info on the history and background to the terminology, caucasian race....and yes, native or genetic Dutch are in general white, tall, often blond, and thin. In theory, Holland is only a part of the country The Netherlands, but often mistaken by other countries to be an alternative name for Netherlands.

So true Killi !

On here (South Europe) we usually refers to caucasian meaning people from the region of Caucasus, but with the great spreading of US scientific publications and ( don't laugh !!) of american thrillers and fictions like CSI and similars , the word is slowly assuming the more general meaning as you well explained above :) :rose:
