unapproachable

Recently someone told me that I was unapproachable. It made me stop and think, maybe I am. I am very much the same in real life as I am here at lit, easy going, tend to see humor in almost everything and I can be very sarcastic (something I try and subdue a bit here). I always find myself talking to strangers, and have no problem caring on meaningless conversations with just about anyone. However I suppose I do use that sarcasm and humor as a bit of a “shield” between myself and others, I don’t let many get close and thus have very few really good friends.

My question is:
Do people send out silent signals telling others to back off? If so, what are they?
How approachable are you?

Someone once told my bf that she didn't like me because I am always "bitter and angry". I was like, HUH??

I think it was because of my sarcstic sense of humor. Some people take everything totally serious and don't hear the meaning behind the words. Ya know?

Most of my friends (unless they are just like me) say that they were intimidated by me at first, but now they know I'm just a big baby.

hmmm...maybe that's not really a compliment...

Body language, nonverbal cues, and energy. I just pick up on it. I used to worry it was my insecurities. Now, I just think we all give off some sort of energy. And, I'm not sure we are aware of it.
