Uranium 1 was widely discussed on the Other Side of Alice in Wonderland's Mirror

Because a man named Frank Giustra, who gave significant contributions to the Clinton Foundation, sold his company to Uranium One in 2007, Republicans charged that Clinton corruptly engineered the approval of the Uranium One sale years later. There was zero evidence for this charge, and it was ludicrous on its face: Not only was Clinton not involved in the sale approval (the work was performed by lower-ranking officials), but also she would have had to get eight other agencies to join in her alleged corrupt scheme.

Republicans said they had explosive new evidence from a confidential informant named William Douglas Campbell, a lobbyist who had worked with Russian companies and who was secretly working for the FBI, claiming that the Russians had funneled money to the Clintons to get the Uranium One deal approved. They also believe that a speech that Bill Clinton gave in Moscow to an investment bank was part of the...

What does this all add up to? Republicans say they have a blockbuster witness who will prove Hillary Clinton engineered the approval of the Uranium One sale because she was paid off by the Russians. They use that claim to pressure Sessions to appoint a special counsel to investigate Clinton. But then it turns out that their claim is completely bogus: Not only is the witness unreliable, but also he isn’t even claiming to have the evidence Republicans say he does, which we learn only when Democrats release more information that Republicans were in no hurry to reveal.

For months Republicans have said the informant, a former lobbyist named William D. Campbell, had explosive information regarding the sale of Uranium One, a Canadian firm that owned mines in the United States, to Rosatom, a Russian-state owned company. They claimed that Campbell could shed light on how Russians exerted influence over then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton—allegedly steering money to her family foundation—in order to win approval of the sale. Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley and several House Republicans cited Campbell’s claims to urge the appointment of a new special counsel to investigate the Uranium One sale. But lately, Republicans have largely stopped talking about Campbell. His recent congressional interview may help explain why.

During the meeting, Campbell admitted that he lacked knowledge of the interagency review process through which the sale was approved. Campbell said he “looked on Google to see” how the process worked, according to Democrats, who also note that he “identified no evidence that Secretary Hillary Clinton, President Bill Clinton, or anyone from the Obama Administration took any actions as a result of” Russian influence.

The FBI, as Mother Jones has reported, decided against using Campbell as a witness against Mikerin after developing concerns about his credibility due to inconsistencies in his claims. Agents believed there was a “high chance” that he engaged in illegal activity that he hid from the government, according to Democrats.

William D. Campbell’s new claims came after he hired Victoria Toensing, a conservative pundit known for virulently anti-Clinton views, as his attorney.

The informant, lobbyist William D. Campbell, "provided no evidence of a quid pro quo involving Secretary (Hillary ) Clinton or the Clinton Foundation and no evidence that Clinton benefited from Uranium sale.

An informant whom House Republicans have said could reveal a link between a 2010 sale of U.S. uranium supplies and donations to the Clinton Foundation provided no evidence of that during a four-hour interview with congressional staff last month, Democrats said on Thursday.

Waldman fleshed this out in great detail,

long story short: the blockbuster GOP witness was a dud. Among other things, Campbell never even made “any allegation of corruption, illegality, or impropriety on Clinton, the Clinton Foundation, President Clinton, the Uranium One deal, or CFIUS.”

Will the attorney general be able to resist the pressure and acknowledge reality now that the GOP’s story has collapsed?

Remember, for quite a while, Republicans pointed to this guy as the basis for a new special counsel who would investigate the Clintons.
