Hi!

I'm new here. The thingie under my name claims I'm a virgin, so be gentle please!

2 weeks ago, I got interested in writing again. I haven't written any fiction since my school days which was twenty odd years ago? (ok, so I'm an old virgin) Being the competitive person that I am, I scoured the web for resources and who would have known that the best resources seem to be right here! Crikey, you even have volunteer editors!

I wrote a piece for submission to Lit. It was horrible even by my eyes, so I wrote another one. I got a volunteer editor to go through it, though she isn't really familiar with the fantasy genre. I even created a website (which looks damn professional if you ask me) over the weekend as a sort of staging area for my flights of fancy. (yup, I'm an old techie-type virgin)

So yeah, back to the virgin thing. While I've got a 6700 word piece that I feel is now pretty polished, I'm terrified that I've made some glaring newbie error that I will never live down for the rest of my virtual days. This is my first time after all! So I would like some people to read it just for the impressions and reviews before submitting it.

So panic questions:

  1. Where should I put the request? Here, because this is where all the cool kids are? Editor's forum because that's where all the clever kids are? Story Feedback? Story Discussion Circle? Oh my!
  2. Am I allowed to post a link to my story on my oh-so-professional-but-strictly-non-commercial website? It wouldn't do to get banned before even posting my first story.

I would say editor's forum. Story feedback seems to be more for stories that are already up, or for feedback on snippets of pre-posted stories (or at least, that's what I've seen there). Story discussion circle confuses me, but I do know that it isn't the place for an editor request.

There's a sticky in the EF that suggests what to include in your request for an editor. There's also a sticky of available March editors, so you might not even have to post.

Yes.

Thanks, I will do that! I have an editor looking at it so it's really just the genre-specific stuff I'm worried about. Always good to have a Really Experienced person for advice!

Ha! Don't be fooled; it may say really experienced underneath the name, but I only have three chapters up, and all are since December. I'll happily stand corrected if someone else chimes in.

Ugh! Too late! If you have erred, I have already sinned. Oh well, if they execute me I can always come back and haunt you.

I'm sorry, LettersFromTatyana, but you should realize by now, that, this being Literotica, corrrection is most commonly applied when in a bent-over or supine position.

The handcuffs we were discussing before should have given her a clue. :D

Actually, the best way to handle a story you are not sure about is to contact a few of the authors in the category you plan on posting it to and asking for a proof read for any obvious errors.

Posting a story in a thread isn't really the way to go as you are bypassing the sites checks for unwanted material. The two worst ones are underage and bestiality.

You people have way too much fun here!

The plot thickens! I'm pretty sure there's no violations as... no successful sex actually happens? The proof of my guilt is here: http://forum.literotica.com/showthread.php?t=755501

How should I fix it?

Damn. Multiple mistakes from me in one thread.

I guess my day will be more exciting than I originally envisioned. ;)

I believe every writer knows when he creates top-shelf wares; the quality is too obvious to ignore or hide. What gives us fits is the crap we crank out; we send it to editors and coddling friends in hopes of redeeming it. The good stuff we're afraid to touch for fear it'll evaporate or whatever, and we never want an editor to monkey with a jewel.

I thought you were asking if you could include a link to your story at lit on your external website, once your story is up. But seeing your post on the EF, I see you meant posting a link to your external website, where the story currently resides.

So... we'll put this in my potential mistake column. I have no idea if that is ok or not.

Links to your own writing site seem to stay around. Although it is considered good manners to post the story to Lit also.

Oh yay! Yes, the intention is to post it on Lit. That site is where I develop the story because it has useful tools versioning inbuilt and it makes it easier for my buddy and I to mutually critique each other's stuff while it's in progress.

I don't think anybody else really uses it, given that it's less than a week old!
