What does it mean when your screen freezes.. then a big white pop up box comes up saying:

Computer is getting dangerously low on resources.

or something like that? Definitely a computer hard- drive thing, not an internet thing.

Basically, you are running low on RAM memory (and swap drive space.) Usually caused by running Windows and other Microsoft products at the same time.

I might be wrong here, but i think it has to do with you getting low on memory.

this can happen from too many drugs, to much alcohol or a few programmes that have possibly not shut down properly which are still using some ofthe RAM, or else when was the machine last shutdown?

Best way around it is to either come down from the high, sober up a bit, or else reboot your machine.

Its not a "bad" error... just a pain in the rump area.

Seriously,

Choose START -> RUN, then type in MSCONFIG and click OK. Then check the STARTUP tab and see what's in there that you are running at startup. You can un-check items to run in there, but be careful, you can do harm messing around in there. Just un-check the ones that you are sure that don't belong...

go to C:/windows/temp
and C:/windows/temperary internet files
erase everything inthose two folders but don't erase the folders
then empty recycle bin I bet you get close to 1-300 MB of HD Space back

The problem: You're running Windows.

Windows does a piss poor job of handling system resources.

So you'll just have to do what these other people have suggested to try to unload some of the crap in memory - or reboot a lot.

OMG freaky.. guys.. I just gave myself a damn heart attack!

Before my 'stupid act of the day': I had 64% free system resources.

I did the thing with the system configuration utility. I removed:

reminder microsoft money (a program i've never used)
mirabilis ICQ
vortex tray
RFX_auto_upgrade (no idea what this is)
LoadPowerProfile Rundll32 (I had 2 of these?)
RealTray
RealJukeboxSystray
TrueVector (for Zonelab, which I disabled long ago)
MiniLog (for Zonelab, which I disabled long ago)
RealDownload
Load= PTSNOOP.EXE (what is this??)
EPSON Background Moniter (what is this??)

Now I'm 88% free system resources

Rebooted. Went online again, and 'OH GOD!' I could not get on any website. It kept thinking and thinking and finally saying [no DNS entry]. I think I gave myself a mild heart attack. (thus the phone call, freaky you have voicemail :p )

I went back and added all the ones that looked important.. No luck. Went back and added them ALL back... obviously back online and on Lit again.

I'm NOT doing that again.

RFX is probably your sound card. don't get rid of that one.

DON'T remove Rundll32! windows needs that puppy to get online. that's probably why you couldn't access the net.

realtray and realjukebox can go

if you aren't using zonelab you can get rid of those things

if you don't use real download that can go, if you do then you should keep it.

"Load= PTSNOOP.EXE" is probably a bit of software for your modem. you should keep it on. however sometimes a virus mascarades under this file name. do you have a virus scanner? if so, check it out.

"EPSON Background Moniter" is a little utility is supposed to keep an Epson printer ready for quick printing. it's really not that important.

"LoadPowerProfile " is required if you are using Power Management (accessed through Start >Settings>Control Panel>Power). If so, there will be two instances. This is normal.

Actually, the wind-chill factor kinda ruined it for me, but it certainly *looked* pretty out. :)

I'm going to bed now, my Guru-comp-tech God you.. nighty night.

*hugs*
