Ugh. Daycare.

I used them a lot during my son's growig up. You just have to investigate and get others endorsements. However, this is too bad for the litle boy and those around him. Hope the day care is shut down.

Here is yet another reason why I could never put my kids in daycare. This is a horrible story. Could you imagine this happeneing to your child?

I've worked in childcare before and it's heartbreaking for me to hear stuff like this. Most childcare centers are run by people who love children and want only good things for them. Good experiences, good memories....

The public generally only hears about stuff like this. Stuff like this is not the norm.

If you're going to take your children to childcare you need to spend time there. Investigate the owner and teachers. Ask questions. If you're even the least bit uncomfortable..keep looking. A developmentally appropriate child-centered school can be a wonderful experience for both child and family. Don't condemn the whole bunch because of a few bad apples.

It doesn't sound like she was running a legal, above the board, daycare. I am sure it varies by state, but usually you need one adult to each child under 2. Here it sounded like there were 16 to 1.

Even if the media was stretching their age, what licensed daycare has a 16 to 1 ratio? The daycare provider probably left to go find her mind!

There are many options to daycare and there are some bad ones and many more good ones.

Nope, the daycare is still open. They reduced the amount from 116 kids to 36 kids, and they changed the name of it and switched spouse names on the ownership papers.

Even the good ones don't measure up IMO. That's just not a chance I could take with my own kids. My mom had me in a daycare that she had checked out and really thought was a good one. They beat me repeatedly. Like my mom said, never trust your children to anyone that you couldn't trust with a billion dollars.

They were supposed to have 1 adult to 6 toddlers. That is still not appropriate in my eyes.

I agree. I worked in daycare for ten years. I currently serve as an advisor for daycare providers working toward a Child Develpment Associate Credential.

As with every service oriented industry, there are good ones and there are bad ones.

Teacher-child ratios are determined by each state. If you think they're too high in your state, write your legislators.
