its about freaking time!

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Postal Service would eliminate about 220,000 full-time jobs and shutter about 300 processing facilities by 2015 under a proposal to bring its finances in order, a postal official said on Friday.

The Postal Service needs to cut payrolls to about 425,000 employees and take over its retirement and health benefits instead of participating in federal programs, Postmaster General Patrick told Reuters.

The mail carrier, which receives no taxpayer funds, has been struggling with falling mail volumes as people communicate increasingly by email and pay bills online.

I just thought I would repost this for the OP. See...if a person sees information enough, they might actually learn something.

and this year, as they lost 3.1 billion dollars, where does that money come from skippy?

They lose it, they operate at a loss, they don't make money that year.

A quarter million Americans unemployed will definitely help end the recession though.

what would help!

#1 America gets a leader
#2 corporate income tax drops to 15%
#3 fire 50% of all government workers
#4 new fuel source
#5 kill the government pension system
#6 redo our school systems (terminate everyone at the top)
#7 move the obama job killing machine to Cuba

#1 The problem isn't a lack of leaders. It's a lack of willingness to fall in line. Sadly you're probably right that a Republican president would ultimately perform better as a leader, but only because democrats would never obstruct to this degree.
#2 wouldn't do shit.
#3 Would cause massive unemployment, which would stall the economy, which would cause massive unemployment. It's great if you wanna see how bad things can get
#4 I suggest unicorn farts
#5 Raises unemployment by millions which would stall the economy which would cause massive unemployment. Great way to reach the bottom.
#6 Not a bad idea but really we don't seem to want better education
#7 There is no Obama job killing machine.

when did you start writing comedy?

government is broke, who's going to pay for all these fucktards?

have you watched the stock market these past two weeks?

why do you hate unicorns? didn't you mean to say that you love to wear unitards?

It's not comedy, it's fact.

And we'll pay it later. Right now if we want this shit to end we gotta spend, spend, spend. Or else this will continue to drag on and on and on.

First I didn't say anything about the end of America. Only you're side gets THAT shrill.

Second, correct me on my history but we weren't in a recession at the time were we? I think there we jobs a plenty.

Third, I'd love to get some facts on this ten million that were "fired". I don't doubt your number, I am calling into question how many World War 2 draftees were really interested in making a career out of it. How many, if you're being honest, of that ten million do you think would have stayed if they could?

PS: We used to tax people at 90% and we're still here and you're crying about 39%. Does it work both ways or is this another one way street where the world didn't end when someone you agreed with took a massive action but it doesn't count now when someone you don't wants to take a tiny one in comparison to what's been done in the past.

government isn't the solution. obama fucktard spending is limping along.

time to give that obama dream up. the only way to generate wealth and move the economy is get a new technology boom going. and lower corp income tax

Yeah we had to destroy all of Europe and drop the atom bomb on the Japanese to get enough stimulus to get us out of the Great Depression.:D

That's your opinion. It is not however a fact. The only unavoidable fact is that the government hiring everybody who could work in one way or another got us out of the depression by causing super low unemployment and a decent amount of inflation so everybody could pay their debt down. If you have a REASON why destroying Europe and nuking Japan are necessary steps instead of building infrastructure, hell send the american Youth on a world tour building power plants in other countries. You've already proven that you don't need to MAKE anything in order to produce wealth. You've gone so far as to suggest that wrecking shit and killing people creates wealth. Well make THAT part of your argument make sense. Just the part where the destruction was what caused the growth.

post office

I could take a number of things out of this thread. So from the what it's worth deportment out of the far reaches of my mind I'll pick on just a few. It's my post I can say what I want. Sure, I'll go with that.

The postal service is a hell of a deal. It really is. Send the same packages via UPS or FedEx and you'll see just how much of a deal it is.

The problem is that people now pay bills on line or send emails. The day's of old when we would would send a letter are long gone. I know I'm showing my age a little here. My parents came over to North America in the late 1940's from Holland. Back then the cost to mail a letter was penny's and the cost to call was dollars per minute. Now an over seas call can be cheaper than to mail a letter.

Point is the postal service doesn't have the need it once did. We still have a need for it and it will never go away. So then we need to ask how can we make the postal service survive on postage.

My thoughts. There does need to be a reduction in how many post office there are. I just did a cross county bicycle trip and the number of very small towns that have post offices is unreal. Case in point. Malcher-Dallas Iowa. It's two towns that are right next to each other. they even share one city park. The towns didn't so much as have a stop light. Yet until this past year both had a post office. So cut the number of post offices will help with cost.

Next. There is a need to reduce the number of day's the mail is delivered. Back county homes might need to have it pushed back as much as to having it delivered three or four times per week. A mail truck running the same long miles every day for six days a week has to come to a stop. The man hours and the gas used as well as the wear on the equipment is killing the postal service. A plan for urgent mail can still be put into place. Some might have medication that need to be delivered on time. Mail can still be picked up at the local branch if need be.

Local in town delivery can also be cut back to four or five days. Again, if you have mail you have to have. You can still pick it up from the post office.

Maybe between the hoildays when mail picks up can again go back to six days.

Health care. Put everyone and this is not just the postal service on a HSA. Heath saving account. I've been on it for years and it does work. Make me as a consumer aware of what I am spending.

Just a few thoughts. the post office need to like everyone else. Live on what it takes in.

hell of a deal? the USPS loses money on ever transaction! how is that a deal? They have to get the workforce in line, costs under control. they also need leadership and escape DC's control.

the problem is as with most government people is they are simply in a 1930 mindset. sure they enjoy the internet but these people are lost in time.

love the idea about the HSA! great point!!!!!!

USPS must end Sat delivery.
USPS must outsource most of their retail locations
USPS must get their government workforce costs under control (pay, bennies, and pension)
