A motorist cannot be stopped for “giving the finger” to a police officer, the U.S. Court of Appeals ruled Thursday.

In a lawsuit against two police officers, the court held the insulting gesture did not constitute “reasonable suspicion that criminal activity or a traffic violation was afoot.”

Have you been to any big cities in the big blue states lately? LAPD/NYPD/Philly PD/Chicago PD/SFPD/Seattle all make Williamson Co. Sheriff's Dept. look like puppy dogs bro.

It's easy to get complacent in Austin...APD is fucking awesome, as long as you aren't causing any problems you never catch any shit from them, as it should be.

Not so in most other metro areas...be they red or blue most other PD's have their guys looking for any and every reason to stop/search/frisk/question people.

No, I'm implying that it'a usually best not to piss off people with badges and guns. Then again, I've dealt with cops enough to know better. A modicum of courtesy and respect for the office (not necessarily the person wearing the badge) goes a long way.

Well, it's safer physically for you to piss off a cop in an urban area rather than a rural one. He may beat your ass, but your chances of being disappeared into some ditch are much lower.
