I wonder why we weren't put on this list as well. After all, we traffic in human slavery as well. Nike toodles it's happy ass to Vietnam and tries to wrangle it so that their labor base is paid piddlypoo forever by making it exempt from any future minimum wage, labor standards, environmental standards, and taxation laws forever. We have ads everywhere and men who respond to them for beautiful Russian, Filipino, (insert country here) women looking for men like you! Is this not human trafficking?

Talk about hypocrasy.

I think...

Europe is blacklisted for importing bananas! It's just that we aren't importing them from one of America's favoured nations.

Jeez I love this label sticking. Black List. Favoured Nation.

Should we tell your administration that no-one else really cares what status we fall under.

It matters not a toot!

Still I suppose if it keeps the politicians happy it helps keep them off your backs...

We're still "Little buddy that's somewhere to the north of us" which I believe, gives us discounts on Jack Daniels.

No shit. Anheiser-Busch & R. J. Reynolds are hawking beer & cigarettes to 12-year-olds in Africa. Nike's paying Vietnamese women 50 cents a week to work 18-hour days sewing soles onto Air Jordans. US oil companies are busy polluting the air and water & drilling in pristine areas of the world wherever there's a country that can be paid enough to let em do so, leaving the children of that country to drink polluted water, breathe dirty air, and play in abandoned oil fields.

Oh, but the REAL enemy of freedom in the world in the year 2001 is Communism. Uh huh. Yeah, sure.

Cupping hand to ear...

"Do I hear a hint of sarcasm in the air?"

Sarcasm? Moi?

I'm not saying corporations are evil. I AM saying that they need to take responsibility for their actions, just like everyone else. Anyone who says otherwise - anyone who believes that corporations should have all the benefits of their power but none of the responsibility - obviously does not understand the meaning of the word responsibility.

You make a mess - you clean it up. Learned that in kindergarten.

2 questions

1) Where does the US fit in? It doesn't mention what tier they're in.

2) What does being blacklisted mean? No more swankee white house soirees? No more pool parties at Camp David?

Well it means...

you're..uh...um...well....ahem...blacklisted of course!

Everyone knows that!:D

PP man, consider this question. Where do the most rampant non-thinking buy the latest fad at whatever price consumers live? Who consumes the majority of the worlds manufactured merchandise? If you were a developing nation who is trying to get the manufacturing thing up there with the rest of the world, where do you want to ship your stuff to? India? Ulan Bator? England? No, you wanna ship it to the instant gratification conditioned hordes of conspicuous consumers.

Most favored nation status means you can ship your stuff into the US with very little by way of governmental regulation, import tariffs, duties, errata. This is a truly great thing if you want to sell your stuff at an alarming rate.

But blacklisting? I guess that means you can't come and see Dubya play golf on his birthday. I think it's meant to sound very ominous by a bunch of somber politicians who take themselves too seriously to realize that those on that blacklist are laughing in their faces.

Human trafficking is a serious problem. [sarcasm]Making lists is really gonna help with this one.[/sarcasm]
