The submission page says that the best way to submit a story is as a plain text .txt file.
So I saved my story as a .txt file and checked that it looked fine when I opened it in notepad.
Then uploaded the .txt file on the submission page.
Next day I get a message saying the text is garbled or unreadable :(

I suspect the problem is that Microshite Windows had put a load of control characters into the file so it wasn't really plain text at all.

What method do people actually use for editing and submitting stories?

I copy and paste into the submissions box then add a few italics.

I copy and paste my story from my word processor into Wordpad. This strips off all formatting. Then I copy the text from Wordpad into the submission box. Works every time.

I copy (from google docs) and paste into the submission box, then preview to check any formatting issues. Supposedly this is the quickest to get your story approved and posted.

1] Save your file as an RTF.
2] Copy & Paste it into the Submissions box.

It should work.

PS. You may like to try and use 'JARTE' (see here ). It saves as RTF but has a dictionary, and can handle Bold & Italics, etc..
And its FREE!

You don't have to save your file as an RTF. Just copy and paste it into the submissions box and then review it in preview to ensure it's done what you want. Don't use any fancy formatting. Literotica is an anthology. It's set to show a uniform format across the collection.

I write in OpenOffice then when I'm done I export a copy as a text file. The default character encoding on my system is UTF-8, so I have to specify that encoding on the upload page. The alternative would be to export the text using Windows character encoding, which is the site default.

I've never had a problem.

Did you review the story on the upload page after you uploaded it to make sure it looked right? If the character encoding was set incorrectly then it won't look right; it may not be obvious at a first glance, or it might be completely garbled.

I work in MS Word. I format the text as I want to see it, using bold and italic, then use the advanced search/replace to find all bold and italic text (you can search not just for text in Word, but also for text styles) and surround them (replace all) with the appropriate tags.

Then I do what others have posted here, select all and paste into the text box. A lot easier than uploading files, which is what I used to do.

I copy and paste directly from MS Word into the text box on the submission page without a problem.

Actually, submitting a .txt file is pasting into the submission text box, not attaching a file to the submission.

Of course copy and pasting from Word requires you set Word up properly.

As for formatting text in the story...I just type the HTML tags around the text as I type. Why waste time with formatting the text in word.

And what you should get is what you get in this text box that is used by you to post with.

Watch format when using Notepad. Undo word wrap.

I think. Posting to threads you have to do that.
