Two movies called, originally "Fong Sai Yuk" and "Fong Sai Yuk II".

They were re-released, dubbed into English, as "The Legend" and "The Legend 2".

Definitely Hong Kong wire-work action at it's finest, with some of the best cooperative stunt work I've ever seen. There are at least three women in the films who manage to outshine most of the men, too. Josephine Siao, who plays Li's mother, is as skilled a martial artist as I've ever seen.

Get these movies. Rent them, buy them, love them. :)

I will call my best friend .. she is an avid Jet Li fan. She was a fan way before he became popular here & she has all his films and then an array of kung fu action films.

I enjoyed the Jet Li movie "Kiss of a dragon". It was a really good movie ... but the whole time I was watching it I was craving those chips that old man sold in his shop - they were in an array of different colors. :)

I have quite a few Li films, too, including the "Fong Sai Yuk" films. I don't have the dubbed re-releases, though.

One film of his I've yet to get, and very much want, is called "The Swordsman". I've heard that it's a damned good movie and has some of the best martial arts sword work that's ever been done.

I've been looking for it, and haven't found it lovally. I may have to jump up onto e-bay or something to get it.

I also highly recommend his "Once Upon a Time in China" series. :)

"The Legend" is absolutely amazing. Jet Li's insanely talented. He's second only to Michelle Yeoh in my book. He's also sexy as hell.

I agree as to his talent, though I don't know about how sexy he is. I think that the woman who played his mother in that movie is right there with Michelle Yeoh, though. It's really close between them.

Laurel, you just have to see "The Legend 2", though. It has most of the same characters as the first, the great sense of humor, and some aerial work that'll make you gasp! :)

She IS awesome! Not only is she super talented, she's also got oodles of charisma. She's the perfect foil to his stern father.

I think I actually have it on DVD, but haven't had the chance to sit down and watch it! I'll have to make time tomorrow...

Jazzy - Jet Li is the doggie's dangly bits for sure.

I try to catch most of his movies

is #2 the one with the samurai who do the pressure point bit and the big fight on the bamboo catwalk thingy in the middle of the square?

Yes! That's exactly the one. :)

Wasn't it just the shit?

VanB....I'm much the same. In fact, what prompted me to write this was that one of the movie channels I have was showing "The Legend 2" and I was watching it. I forget, sometimes, how much fun movies like that are to watch.

I love good martial arts movies. I also LOVE good John Woo movies. Not his Americanized crap, but gems like "Hard Boiled" and "A Better Tomorrow". Chow Yun Fat is the epitome of cool.

I think that perhaps "The Killer" was the finest movie John Woo has ever done.

Mostly, though, I like my martial arts movies with a touch of humor in them. That's why I so dig the Jackie Chan and Jet Li Hong-Kong movies. I could also probably throw in Sammo Hung, too. He kind of set the table for Chan and Li (and was in a few movies with Chan when he was just becoming a star in H-K).

i THOUGHT so. saw it on tv one sunday afternoon. both, back to back, but i only cought the title to the first one, so i wasn't sure if it was the sequel. the tv's background noise while i putz on my puter, or it was back then. now my puter is not in the same room as the tv and we don't have cable..

:(

Yes, that movie rocks. For shoot-em-up action, there's no one better than John Woo. He puts our some crap, but when he's good, he's the best.

Yeah, I think Sammo & Jackie started out together in the very beginning, before his launch into stardom. Jackie's awesome. "Rumble In The Bronx" is one of my favorites, as is "Drunkem Master". I think he's a little past his prime as a fighter though (no offense, Jackie!). In Rush Hour 2, he wasn't near as agile as he used to be. I was worried he was going to break a hip!

for the umpteenth time, yes?

the man is idestructable! you may break his bones, but you'll never break his spirit! (or his acting career)

No kidding! I love the "bloopers" at the end of his movies. The bits where he misses the stunt and hurts himself make me cringe.

i know he's used a stunt double once or twice (the double won an award for the fall down the bell tower in Shanghi Noon), but hey, he IS getting older, and you can only break a bone so many times before your body says "hang on a fuckin' minute! d'you really think that i'm gonna do that again? not bloody likely!"
