The main part of the race had already ended; it was only the late finishers and whoever was there to greet them who were still around.


If this was a bomb, and that has yet to be determined, it's strange that it was timed for after the crowds had thinned.

Fortunately, if that's the right word, there were already lots of medical types in the area like you'll see at the end of any marathon, plus police for crowd control, etc.

I have no doubt politics is at the forefront of the minds of those who have nothing else going on in their lives but politics. Something like the unity of 9/11 (not that this is anything resembling that scale) could never happen with a Democratic president, obviously.

As for motive or who planted the hypothetical bomb, it's anyone's guess, but we should keep in mind that it's Patriot's Day, and who in our modern politics takes a special interest in that day (I'm really shocked no one on TV has made that connection yet).
