The cabin lay in an open clearing in the middle of the forested mountains. A long drive led up from the one small road running anywhere close to the building. It truely was in the middle of nowhere. This night however, christmas eve, a warm yellow glow, friendly and welcoming, shone from the cabins windows. It had been decked out with lights, wreaths, holly and looked like nothing more than Santa's very own grotto. Inside the sound of laughing echoed into the cold night air as snow gently fell. A nearby fox stopped as it wander past the lodge as a particularly loud peal of luaghter broke the perfect silence of the forest. Deciding it wasn't important the animal walked on searching for it prey.
Inside the cabin, safetly snuggled in its warmth, the family Preston were enjoying themselves. All sitting around an open fireplace drinking warmed cider, everyhting was right with the world. The inside of the cabin looked as festive as the outside, a huge tree in one corner of the main room, its lights twinkling.
"Ok, guys. I think its time for bed. Your sure you two will be ok down here?" The father of the group, Luke Preston asked as he got to his feet.
"Sure dad, we got our sleeping bags, we'll be fine. See you guys in the morning." Casey Preston, Lukes daughter, grinned as she and her brother Tyler also got up and moved to the camping gear.
"Well, if you need anything call us, ok?" Casey's mother, Sandy, stated following her husband to the bottom of the stairs leading to the one large bedroom on the next floor. With that she turned and disappeared upstairs, a second later the siblings heard the door close.
