TV portrayals of Gay-ness

If i were gay, I wouldn't like the way the "lifestyle" is portrayed on TV (ironically).
The gays on Modern Family are cartoonishly stereotypical and their child is terribly confused. The little girl thinks she's "Gay" and not "Vietnamese". Now on Netflix, there is that show "Orange is the NewBlack", the girl "use" to be a lesbian, but she's not anymore. So her gayness was a choice, which I thought wasn't possible

Everyone swears I'm a drunk but I never touch the stuff. I work in my garden or in the yard setting stone paths, or read, or write dirty stories. Growing up, everyone "knew" gays were swishy, effeminate types like Liberace and Little Richard.

I all seriousness, TV and Movie people generally tend to be more sensitive and supportive of gay issues. Yet, in my opinion, the same sex family portrayed on "Modern Family" highlights the negative aspects of this type of arraangement. I don't think you can deny that the little girl they are raising is screwed up. I know that lots of kids are screwed up no matter who's raising them because we all suck at being parents. I just think the portrayal of the lifestyle is over the top.
Gays tell us that the lifestyle is not a choice, which we all know is not entirely true. On "Orange is the New Black", the female lead was a lesbian, but that was just a phase she was going through.
I just think the entertainment industry ( which has a lot of gay influence) is doing a bad job depicting the lifestyle.
