I'm sitting here horribly depressed, and what do I do? I want to turn to this place for comfort.

My dog died today. I had thread on this board about him when I got him. Here's a link to the thread.

Dakota

McKenna suggested the perfect name for him, and he became Dakota.

He got out of the yard today and was hit by a car. I think I'm cried out for now.

What's making it even worse is that I can't bury him yet. It hasn't rained here in forever, and the ground is rock hard. I've tried to start digging in 4 different places, and simply can't dig deep enough with hand tools. So I've called a friend of mine that has a small back hoe. He's going to come down later and dig the grave for me.

So here I sit, missing my dog, waiting to be able to bury him, and turning to this place for support.

I know this will seem like an odd compliment, but it really is a testament to all of the wonderful people here.

I know something about what you're feeling, even if my own experience caught me by suprise. Our dog was actually my stepson's, my wife got him about the time Jonathan was learning to walk and they basically were puppies together.

By time I came into the family, Cherokee had become an outside dog with his own run where he could run and frolic and we could come visit with him and, occasionally, even go out for walks and such.

But then old age and other things reached him very suddenly, and now all I have is this .

My thoughts and best wishes with you, man.

Sorry for your loss.

I've lost pets in the past and it's a hard thing....

Awwwww, great big HUGS... I'm so sorry :(

We lost our doggie last year, and I was so devastated...

Everyone here was/is so supportive... we're here for ya, doll...

Damn. That sux. I know how hard it was for me. Part of the process was the digging of the grave, the burying. It was something I had to do that day. It must be especially tough not to be able to dig it yourself.
You have my deepest sympathies and condolences. :rose:

I'm so sorry.
I had to have my seventeen year-old dog put to sleep last year, and even though he'd had a good, long life, and even though my mom had adopted him from me years before, I was wretched.
So my heart goes out to you, losing your beloved dog so suddenly and so young. :rose:

Thank you everyone for your warm thoughts.

He really was a pretty dog. Here's what he looked like after he matured.

So sorry, Ky. :rose:

It is hard to lose a pet, and many times others make us feel that we shouldn't be grieving because we haven't lost a Human friend, only a pet. It's times like this when we all should remember how animals behave. There may be some squabbles, but devotion lasts a lifetime, and beyond.

So sorry for your loss, WK. :(

I know how much it hurts losing an animal friend.
