OOC: This time, the setting is not Edwardian England but much earlier. King Henry VIII has recently become annoyed with his wife Catherine of Aragon and convinced that he shouldn't have married his brother's widow. Meanwhile, there are growing numbers of Protestant Reformers, mostly Lutherans, who wish to dramatically change the religious situation in England. Henry still spurns them, but he has become infatuated with a young lady named Anne Boleyn.
My character is not a courtier but a wealthy landowner from near London, Sir William Peterson. He is not especially pious, but he is close to the reigning Queen and knows Anne Boleyn for a conniving and spiteful woman. He fears that if she becomes Queen, he will have to go into effective exile for a while, possibly into France or Scotland. He even fears that she might become Henry's mistress, since that would still give her power.
Peterson is married, but it's an arranged marriage and he has a number of mistresses himself. He also harbors a very dangerous secret: a male lover named Charles Hume, about the same age as himself and as much a womanizer as Peterson. This doesn't stop them from having a strong sexual and emotional bond. Above all, he will try to protect himself, his family, his mistresses, and most importantly Charles from Anne's revenge. Even the Queen might turn against him, despite his loyalty to her, if she knew of his homosexual liasions.
Need people to play Lady Peterson (rumored to have her own lover, a rising official named Thomas Cromwell), Charles Hume, and his mistresses (names to be chosen by the players themselves). Could also use people to play the King, Thomas Cromwell, Anne Boleyn, Cardinal Wolsey, and Queen Catherine.
Note: Evelyn Treemont reminded me of the existence of Mary Boleyn, Anne's sister and predecessor in Henry's affections. Naturally, she would be useful to the story if someone wished to play as her.
