Right now his name is David, which works, but the problem is that my main character (to whom he is the love interest) is Danielle, and I can see that getting confusing or annoying.
He's tall, gangly, straw-colored hair, green eyes, glasses. Undeveloped physique--sort of a nerd, but without the acne problems. He cleans up well. He's one of those "nice guys" you hear about, the ones a girl isn't afraid to bring home to her mother; clean-cut, polite, intelligent, doesn't mouth off in public. Socially he keeps to himself, biding his time and not saying much until he can drop the perfect comment that turns everything on his ear; his favorite quote is Archimedes: "Give me a place to stand and with a lever I will move the whole world." He's not big on confrontations--especially the surprise ones he hasn't had time to prepare himself for. Not clumsy, but not much of a sportsman either; he likes to win, but he doesn't find much reward in making others lose. Not particularly adventurous; likes his comfort zones. And, relatedly, not particularly ambitious either, which women have had their concerns about.
I am especially looking for a name that has plenty of nicknames or diminuitives. This is because I'm using alternate names to describe the characters' different phases of life or facets of personality. Danielle, for instance, is "Dani" to her friends, "Nellie" to her parents, "Elle" when she's trying to be suave and sophisticated, and "D" when someone's snubbing her. (I had a thread about her earlier.) This may extend to changing which name the story refers to them by, which could get confusing but which I want to try handling (to see if I'm good enough). But to do that, I need a variety of nicknames. And right now I haven't got one.
...Help?
