You know pulling out a cig I've thought about it.flicking my Zippo and lighting it but it never seems to happen.puff, puff

can't help you, Goldie darlin. I gave up the cigarettes, but only by taking up the pipe.

You have my admiration and sympathy. They tell me it helps more than anything else to HATE the fucking things. Try that: [Vader Voice] Use your hatred![/Vader Voice]

Oh dear just lit one up - it was all Abs fault with her provocative zippo reference...

Sorry love, I can't help you either, I just skinned up, and sparked up.

I gave up for three weeks once long ago, then went down the pub and that put paid to that caper.

Best of luck. I quit in 1988 -- never looked back. I brushed my teeth a LOT ('cause the tastes don't mingle well).

Hang in there! You can do it!

I was completely serious about the HATE thing. It's how it's done.

So many people have said that to me - and I know that I should hate ot but I do like it - although thats probably the addiction more than anything else!

Another problem is that, no matter how expensive the fags are, three hours / 40 of anything else costs even more, and toffees pull yer fillings out...

As Mark Twain said, "Quitting smoking's easy. I've done it many times."

Goldie, if you're serious (really want to quit), doing it with a partner or group is best. I quit for five years about ten years ago. I haven't thought seriously of quitting again but I know just how to do it. (I thought I could just smoke one or two a day but went quickly back to a pack a day.)

My HMO had a two week program which I attended three evenings a week with about ten other people, including my best friend. (I couldn't believe she was quitting and took advantage of the moment thinking if she could do it I could.) One of the group, a former alcoholic and drug addict said quitting smoking was harder, but he did it. As I recall there was only one dropout, and my friend is still 'clean'.

It's not so much a physical addiction (the actual withdrawal from nicotine only takes a few days to a week or so), as psychological. You have smoking triggers (drinking, after meal times, coffee, talking on phone, watching tv, etc.) and they are pervasive. The program taught us to recognize these and be prepared. All in all, it's education of the problem and yourself that helps most.

Best to you, Perdita

About eight months or so ago, Tatelou quit smoking. She posted here asking for advice and got a lot of it and a lot of support. You could probably go back and find the thread.:rose:

Good luck. I quit about 30 years ago and it was tough.

I quit in 1990. I had smoked since I was twelve (yah, I know, I know...)

You CAN do it!

Yep. Here is one thing where peer pressure is a good thing. Best of luck from one who had an easy time finding motivation. It was either cigarettes or sex.
