Hang in there! You can do it!

I gave up for three weeks once long ago, then went down the pub and that put paid to that caper.

perdita said:Goldie, if you're serious (really want to quit), doing it with a partner or group is best. I quit for five years about ten years ago. I haven't thought seriously of quitting again but I know just how to do it. (I thought I could just smoke one or two a day but went quickly back to a pack a day.)
My HMO had a two week program which I attended three evenings a week with about ten other people, including my best friend. (I couldn't believe she was quitting and took advantage of the moment thinking if she could do it I could.) One of the group, a former alcoholic and drug addict said quitting smoking was harder, but he did it. As I recall there was only one dropout, and my friend is still 'clean'.
It's not so much a physical addiction (the actual withdrawal from nicotine only takes a few days to a week or so), as psychological. You have smoking triggers (drinking, after meal times, coffee, talking on phone, watching tv, etc.) and they are pervasive. The program taught us to recognize these and be prepared. All in all, it's education of the problem and yourself that helps most.
Best to you, Perdita

Yep. Here is one thing where peer pressure is a good thing. Best of luck from one who had an easy time finding motivation. It was either cigarettes or sex.perdita said:Goldie, if you're serious (really want to quit), doing it with a partner or group is best.
