the first, a girl sees a picture of her friends brother, who is a solider and remarks about him while he happens to be behind her, the girl and her friend + her brother are pretty insecure people who have dealt a lot with shallow relationships and all of them are slow to move forward, at some point the brother and some of his buddies get caught in a fire, and his Sargent is in love with some desert that his sister makes.
the second jumps around a bit at the begging but fallows a girl and a boy who have been friends forever and decide to go to senior prom together, I believe at school they are called C&C by their friends but I don't remember what their names are, at their prom, a tornado hits the building and kills everyone but these 2 students since the boy breaks into a room and hides them under a table, and is able to help people find them by typing out SOS messages with his ring on a table leg, other stuff goes on after this but that is the main gist of the start of the story.
the third is a lesbian story, where a Latino mother recently lost her husband who she married via an arranged marriage, she had been hiding the fact that she was gay while raising her family, and she meets a lady who runs a catering business? or something to do with delivering sandwiches.
