Hello everyone. I was hoping I could get a bit of guidance. I am trying to figure out what size dress would work for me, without buying 5 or 6 sizes and trying a shotgun approach.

My bust is ~ 40
Waist is ~ 36
Hips are about the same, ~36
All in inches..

I can wear large panties from most stores comfortably. Would anyone like to take a guess as to a dress size... or at least a number to start with?

aai made the same thread in the Fetish and Sexuality forum, and several people recommended I post my question in this forum.
TIA!

I'm near your chest and waist measurements and I'm a 14/16 depending on the cut.

To give the illusion of fuller hips, look for dresses with a full circle skirt or those that can use petticoats.

I think you should go to a store and try some dresses on. You won't know how a size or style will fit you unless you try it on.
If this feels awkward, maybe take a female friend in the fitting room with you.

I've done this with male friends and never had an issue.

OR find an online sizing chart. Every online store has one.

You could also find out where the drag queens and crossdressers shop (or at a minimum, a store/staff that has experience with those groups), then go there and try dresses on (at least to get an idea of sizing and what flatters you most). These shops are frequently in the GLBTQ neighborhood(s) of larger cities, or kind of off the beaten path. You should be able to find them by asking around online. Check into cd and drag queen groups around that larger city, and you'd probably even have luck asking on Craigslist. Through your pursuits to find stores, maybe you'll even find a shopping companion with experience who can help you look your best. Once you gain more experience with sizes, as well as styles and brands (sizing can be highly dependent on both, BTW), it'll be easier to shop online at sites that offer free shipping both ways and find stuff in stores.

That's probably how I'd go about it, anyway.

Best of luck finding a dress or three you feel great in! :)

to be honest

as hard as it is to do, to actually take the step - it is incredibly exciting to actually go to a store and try some on - go to a mall somewhere "out of town" and have fun, like I said, its scary at first, but you'll be so glad you did.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I really want to go in and try something on, but I haven't been able to gather the courage to do it yet. Unfortunately I have zero friends to go with, or get support from... and that just seems to make things harder. No one that knows me irl knows anything about this part of me. It still all seems kinda mixed up in my head.

I mean I have had some crazy shit happen to me, and I knowingly accept I am a little bit crazy. It is like I can't accept this aspect of myself sometimes, so how can I expect anyone else to accept it. If that makes any sense. I think I am just babbling now...
